you can dodge it, you just have to dodge it on the correct side. if you go towards Eigong, you'll get hit, but if you go the opposite direction, you can easily avoid the attack.

ive been doing that and its like my pinkie toe is getting clipped by it anyway or something the hit box just feels a bit off on its edges
I always dodge that attack, never unbounded counter it. My suggestion that helped me avoid it much more frequently is to employ a jump + dash combo. When you see Eigong begin the ball attack (not too early mind you or she'll follow you! Wait until she's forming the ball in the air) begin jumping away from her and then wait until she lands on the ground to initiate the dash. This will mean you still have your dash i-frames for the split second you're in the attack radius. The jump helps you avoid the fire on the ground that will burn you during a dash and gives you a little extra distance.
the bounder parry is easier for this attack. I found dodging not stable and got the same thing as u, even when I'm totally out of the attack animation, out of that ball thingy, I still got hit. so for this attack charge parry is the best, it's also give u a chance for using talisman which do more damage since she's too fast for u to hit her normally

2nd this. Jumping+AirDash helped me avoid it nearly all the time.
Unbound countering the move is still much easier imo and also adds a fair amount of internal dmg
i know this thread is a bit old but in case anyone else is also revisiting this;

personally, the second i noticed that she was preparing the attack i would just run in the opposite direction of her and then when she touched down with the orb i would dodge (also away from her) and it worked like 80% of the time. most of the times i got hit while using this method was if i panic jumped before dodging and then took damage after the dodge, which isn't really the game's fault.
If you just get far enough away from her while she's charging it she literally cannot hit you.

Unbounded parry is better, of course, as it's an easy attack to punish.
