Is it fair to say Jiequan is this game's Genichiro?
I mean by serving a similar role of being an early/mid landmark where you're thoroughly tested in eveything you've learned so far:

- Projectile reflecting
- Combo mixups, sometimes resulting with a red move you gotta parry in the air
- Destroying shield with charged moves so he cant heal himself
- A devastating red AOE move which you can only charge parry
- If said AOE gets through you gotta do a well timed air dash to avoid the flames

Haven't beat him yet but boy is it fun to figure him out. Peak boss design imo.

I would say Jiequan is quite harder than Genichiro, but the analogy is fair enough.

He is definitely the boss that asks you to put everything you learned so far to the test. Considerably tougher than Yanlao, for example.

It took me 9 attempt to beat him, the first 2 attempts were after a near month break so I kept getting the button inputs wrong, the 3 after that I got him into second phase every time. The last 3 before the kill I almost got him and then I remembered that crimson attacks can be parried by holding it down and beat him on the 9th attempt which was the one I recalled that. His second phase is actually easier then his first because his crimson attacks are massively telegraphed, every time he teleports its 1 of the 2 and the one you parry is such a delayed attack that even if you always play it like it will be the charge (the jump and hit him one) you always have time to parry the delayed one if it was not which makes phase 2 much easier if you have any kind of meh reaction time that is.

I found the platforming part before lady ethereal to be much harder then Jiequan, I struggled for nearly an hour on that.

He's definitely a milestone in terms of letting you know you're leaving the early game and heading into the mid game. Very frustrating when you first get to him (especially if, like me, you don't like unbounded counter and never use it). However, he's definitely not near the top of difficult bosses in the game...those are yet to come!
