Is this game harder than Hollow Knight?

P.S. I struggled a lot with Hollow Knight and just dropped the game. Nine Sols seems appealing to me but I wouldn't want to buy it only to abandon it as well.

It is, and it's not even close. But the game has story mode that allows you to adjust difficulty so you'll be able to oneshot the final boss. Personally, I appreciated the story even more than the gameplay, so I recommend you give the game a try only for it.

This game is much easier than Hollow Knight in terms of exploration and combat, although there are two bosses that are quite difficult. Additionally, while waiting for other people's reviews, if you have time, I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with ancient Chinese mythology, particularly the story of Hou Yi shooting down the suns, as it can deepen your appreciation of the beauty of this story.

It’s the hardest metroidvania I have ever played, with probably the hardest boss I have ever fought, but it has an adjustable easy mode.

Totally agree with the above. I'm not too far in (maybe 30%-ish) and as much as I'm enjoying the game play, the story and world building is what keeps me coming back.

I think it is harder than Hollow Knight but it has a story mode difficulty, and the story so far is really good, better than Hollow Knight imo. I'm hooked already even after bashing my head against the wall against a boss

Depends on how far you went with Hollow Knight, as all the hardest stuff there is optional.

I'd say its definitely harder than just going for base ending of Hollow Knight, but easier than doing the Grimm Troupe or Godseeker DLC.

But as said, there is story mode to make the game as easy as you need it to be.
