You're definitely not far into the game though so I wouldn't worry too much about it. It can sting when it happens but you'll be fine. Just spend Ji when you can so you don't risk losing as much by carrying it around constantly, and avoid recycling components until you need the money.
There's also the loss of exp when you die but it's only the exp that hasn't reached a level up. You don't lose skillpoints but you lose the exp you gained toward your next skill point. Eventually, you get gears that help gain more money and exp if you need to use them.
Note: Most of the time, you will get to the end of the game with max Skill points and a lot of the time, you'll get to the end of the game with only a couple Bow upgrades you need jin for. You can farm jin by just killing enemies.
You're right, but generally I don't know that I'm about to walk into a boss. Their rooms sometimes are barely special at all, so you can't tell. Once I die the first time then, I have no choice but to go back there over and over again hoping I can pick it back up before dying again.
In some cases, if you die close to the edge of the battle area, you can recover your stuff without triggering the fight. It's possible with bosses like the Fengs, the 1st centaur guy, Jie Quan, Ji. It's not possible for bosses like Yan Lao or certain mini-bosses that lock you in the area.
