Endings Question

I've messed up on my play through and am now in the normal ending. is the only way to get the true ending to start a new game?

Fortunately no, if you reload the save file you beat the game on you will be returned to the point of no return and can go do all the things necessary to achieve the true ending. This does mean you will have to replay the final area of the game, but it is fairly short without stopping to read all the log entries.

How? Because when I go back in to my save, every non-critical path route seems to be blocked off and inaccessible? The fast travel is removed, and checking the pathways, it seems that there actually isn't a way to go down these pathways? Or am I just an idiot and am missing something super obvious?

it sounds like you've already encountered Einong in that case. Just go thru, speedrun it and beat the game how you normally would. once you're done, and you're back to the title screen, reselect your original save and it should give you the option to back track to a save BEFORE you encountered Einong. Once you have encountered her, you are FORCED down the path of fighting her. no more exploring, no more finishing up quests. do everything you wanna do, BEFORE you encounter her ya feel?
