final boss.
i know 95% of the people playing this game havent beaten this boss yet, and maybe theres a reason for that. this boss is absolutely ridiculous. its just too much, she has over 15 different moves she can use in phase 2 alone, and then adding some ridiculous garbage quicktime events in phase 3? the devs are definitely taking the piss with this boss. theres no way they actually playtested this and thought it was acceptable for launch. i bet money this garbage boss will be nerfed within the next month. she goes beyond challenging but still fun into straight up making me question whether this game is even worth my time or not territory. fix this boss. this is not fun anymore. why take a 10 out of 10 game and then absolutely sour the taste of the entire thing with such a poorly balanced and implemented boss with ZERO playtesting from the devs.

If I had a main criticism of the final boss, it's not necessarily that it's hard or requires occasionally frame-perfect inputs. I simply think it's just really lazy game design to use moments that *require* trial and error to overcome.
Her phase 3 special attack really exemplifies this, because there's nothing about it that allows the player to intuit or reflexively respond to the attack. It's a flashy move that might as well be made by an invisible enemy, and you need to die at least once to learn. Then, build some amount of muscle-memory to survive it depending on how good at the game you are.

I find her frustrating to fight BUT fair. It's a question of learning. My first few fight were over in a matter of seconds. But over each trials, learning her attacks it became easier and easier. The game is a Sekiro like, it's a very exigent kind of game were mistake are generally fatal.

Play with full control talisman, the fully charged 5 qi burst stun her. Do chipping damage in between attacks, counter attack with talisman after either her Iai attack where she dash forward and leave a trails of attacks. Or when you're able to parry one of her red attacks.

Her phase 3 is a bit of a rush, but the trick is that the attacks lag slightly after you've seen her cross the screen. Keep the airdash/double jump in case the last attack is a red one to dodge it. Other than that it's learn to win. Remember, Hesitation is defeat

Should've been an optional version of the boss, maybe in NG+ or smth. The rest of the game requires nowhere near this level of mastery of the mechanics.

Sword is useless, just parry and charged attack. I see like one opening to use the talisman? And then in phase 2-3 it can randomly be interrupted by the boss making a fast attack.

Phase 3 I have no idea what I'm even looking at.

E: Beat it, easy game. If the devs nerf it, they're a bunch of losers.

She has plenty openings in phase 2 and 3. When she does the rush behind you with 3 delayed slashes you can safely attach a talisman if you just jump in front of her before the slashes appear. After countering her talisman attack, if she does a single slash upwards you dodge the first red attack and use Unbounded Counter on the big energy ball attack that she will always use afterwards. If after countering the talisman she does 2 upward slashes you just use Unbounded Counter on the slash downwards she will charge at the end. You can also react to whenever she randomly does the big energy ball.

Also adding slashes here and there is easy enough for me.

Phase 3 is identical except for the new big attack that always gives you opportunity to counter her talisman attack at the end.

Just play more, I've beaten true ending Eigong a few times and can do it consistently atm, it felt miserable at first but you get used to it.

Persevere instead of complaining, I doubt Red Candle will nerf her.

Exacly. Reminds me of Dark Souls 1 last boss. We gave you the whole game to learn parry timings but you didnt and instead spammed rolls, have fun with Lord Gwyn.

Im about to fight her and im sure i will die a lot. But each death will bring me closer to win. Lady Etheral and the siblings were tought. But now i could defeat them on the first time with no problems since i know how to defeat them. The same will be with this final boss. After i defeat it once, suddenly she will become easy. Here i come last achievment that needs me to replay the whole game!

I'm at this boss now and some moves feel really cheap like the super fast "teleport up and slash down" red attack. It's like the boss is a bit too fast for how "modular" the moveset feels. She is stringing up old and new moves in phase 2 and it throws me off a lot. If the animations were a second slower it would be better because then it would be more of a "react to what you see" than "muscle memory in response to what you think will happen" but it is what it is.

I managed to get half way into phase 2 in like 15 tries. I just need some rest I guess.

If you find her too frustrating but want to see the end of the story, that's what story mode is for.

I don't understand the mindset behind demanding the boss gets made easier for everyone (including the people who enjoy it as is) instead of just using the mode that makes it easier for you.

She's not as "modular" as she appears, FWIW, it's just hard to figure out the correspondences when everything's so fast and they change from phase to phase. For instance, the uppercut/helmsplitter combo always appears as a followup to the charm attack in Phase 2, and you can predict which red attack she's going to cap it off with based on whether she does one or two regular hits beforehand.

This.

The devs have already given us a tool to nerf the boss to exactly the level we want - or you can do what I did and grind for 7 hours while taking short breaks until I eventually entered a flow state and saw the matrix. But don't take away my victory and my fun because you're too embarrassed to use the tools that are RIGHT THERE.

The fight is well balanced and I say this as someone who took about 5 hours to "get it" and beat Eigong. You are punished way harder than in the other battles for making mistakes, but it's doable.

I will say that MAYBE the only attack that should have the damage nerfed are the talismans since those hit you for a giant amout of HP and will also act together with the fire, the easiest way to die in this fight is stepping on fire and then getting hit by a talisman.

The third phase is really scary, but thing is, it's just flashy with attacks that take the whole screens. As long as you are blocking, even imperfectly, you won't die. When you thrown mid air by her attacks, don't panic and remember that you can double jump to avoid. The easiest way to actually die, are again, the damn talismans, since Eigong loves to finish those screen wide combos by catching you down there with a talisman.

As for the charged slash attacks, those are also scary, but my trick for them is to parry the first three slashes. Wait to release your charged parry when she opens her eyes, then normal parry twice, and for the last charged slash you can dodge this one by dashing in her direction.

If you are having issues with some specific attacks, you can also instantly stagger Eigong and make her cancel with a shot of the cloud piercer. You can also recharge your bow if you use the talisman skill that recovers one shot after you detonate it.

Egos fragile as glass, in short.

I had the same thought when I met her first time. But then you realize that her teleport up has unique start-up you can easily react. It's still muscle memory, but the whole game is about muscle memory. You aren't able to parry otherwise.

Eigong is one of, if not the, best boss I've ever fought. If you have problems, switch to story mode and turn the damage way down - then you can practically practice the phases indefinitely and when you get the hang of them, set everything up again as in normal mode. Alternatively, if you want to get the achievement, you can simply copy the save. Eigong is definitely doable.
