Shanhai 9000 Prequel Comic

I just wanted to bring this cute comic to the attention of players who enjoyed Nine Sols' story and lore. In 2022, around the time they ran the crowdfunding campaign for the game, the developers ran a short CYOA web comic which would later tie into the Shanhai 9000 side quest in the final game.

It helps explain some context for the broken Shanhai 9000 and certainly made me appreciate that sub-plot a whole lot more. Though I wish the game elaborated on how Chien (the blind girl) ended up boarding New Kunlun after all and became a Dusk Guardian. Maybe they left that part of the story open-ended as a sequel/sidequel hook?

The manga is really something else.
Apparently the poor ded guy in the tower underneath the Empyrean area was also in the manga.

They said in a interview recently, there are lots of thing they want to make, plots, bosses, but got no time. Chien is also originally planned as a boss.

They are now focusing on bug fixing, QOL, localization and porting. Any big feature or even sequel is not planned.

Assuming you haven’t deduced it yet by this time. Mom only had tickets for 2. So she chose her newborn over her blind daughter. Mom told Chien to stay home through the answering machine so she could avoid saying goodbye.

Honestly, the confusing part is what comes after. Chien looked like she was dying in that last panel (as the plant was taking over while she was getting trampled) and the robot got torn apart. Yet in the game, she made it to adulthood as a dusk warrior, and the robot is “alive” and helping Yi with maps. So either someone helped (can only assume it’s Gourmang), or the devs made this comic before they finalized their storyline for the game (cut content and whatnot).
