Unskippable Cutscenes
Adore this game. Excellent skill based combat that is very satisfying and fun to learn. Bosses are very well designed, pacing is generally excellent. Upgrades feel meaningful. Jade loadouts are interesting and feel viable across the board. In terms of gameplay there are very few combat-oriented MVs that stand up to Nine Sols.

I love replaying games, and I know I'm not the only person that feels this way. I really enjoyed the cutscenes, dialogue, and story of this game during my first playthrough. I immediately went to start a second run (actually before I finished- true final boss is amazing and so, so difficult in the best way). When I did so, I remembered that cutscenes in this game are unskippable, and there is so much dialogue. I appreciate the dialogue fast forward button, it helps. But there is so much exposition. Having made it through all the story content, this actually made me hesitate to play again.

Red Candle, please PLEASE patch in cutscene skips or some kind of speedrun mode that allows repeat players to get to the content that we replay games for- gameplay. The game is so good. I just want to play it without sitting through cutscenes that I've already seen (even though they're excellent). Even if it unlocks on a second playthrough, that would make a world of difference.

Curious what other folks thoughts are on this. Or is there some setting that I missed? I'm nearly done with my second playthrough and it just seems so odd to me that in 2024 there are unskippable cutscenes, even on repeat playthroughs.

100%, would love to replay this a few times, maybe do some challenge runs but the literal hours of unskippable cutscenes are preventing me.

There is a dialogue fast forward option in the setting. They should probably make that more obvious because I’m seeing a lot of people not realizing that it’s there. As for cutscenes, I hope that they'll also implement skip feature for that.

This is going to sound salty. At this point I'm exhausted of it. I see people defend unskippable cutscenes with stuff like "You're robbing yourself of the story!" and "This is how to achieve true immersion!"

Okay? What if I've heard the story? I find the most immersive games to integrate story with gameplay seamlessly, and even 2D platformers have been capable of doing that for years.

This game is a movie. It is a really really good interactive movie. But when it comes time to dust off my soulslikes, or run through my best metroidvanias, I'm leaving this one on the shelf. I don't get much enjoyment rewatching the same movie unless it's a comedy for some reason. I get crazy enjoyment out of replaying adventure games, using my knowledge of the first playthrough to aid me in my second, beat it faster or have more fun. It is extremely unfortunate to see the replay value of a game this good get tanked by its exposition. While it's a very good story, it is one you sit, watch, and read. Absolutely throws me out of immersion when what I want to do is fight.
