Unbounded Counter Opinion and Question
Okay so I am curious what everyone's experience has been with this mechanic. Personally, I hate it..I find unbounded counter to be clunky and not at all intuitive. I generally really enjoy parrying as a mechanic and while there's some jankiness with the parry in this game it's working pretty well once you get a handle on it.

But unbounded counters? Hate these things.

What did you all do? Ignore it completely like me except for necessary exploration? Use it a lot? Feel indifferent?

Conceptually the mechanic is great, but in reality my Apeman brain can't handle the mechanic against the faster crimson attacks. I've only used the unbounded counter against the very SLOW crimson attacks and the wall turrets.

It requires some training, but you can deal a lot of damage and open enemy on talisman. At the start i also had problems, but later i learnt timing and it felt rewarding especially during boss fights

Keep in mind you can hold a parry into unbound charge to deflect & start charging the unbound parry immediately. You also don't have to charge as long as you would think so try releasing early.

It's a core staple to countering & staggering bosses to deal a lot of damage with your talisman afterwards. One of the abilities you can unlock also gives you more talisman charges on successful counter which allows you to always punish. There is also a jade that let's you inflict your internal damage to your enemy on unbound counter parry which is very good at the later boss battles.

It pays off to unbound parry so don't avoid it.

Initially my experience was the same, i hated it but after being forced to use it in certain situations/boss fights (namely the final boss) I find this mechanic very very rewarding and I like it a lot.

You just gotta get used to the flow. Like all things in life, this too takes a little while getting used to, but by the end of the game, the unbounded parry will become second nature.

Excited to hear that most people are having a really positive experience with this mechanic. I think the game's really good and want people to spread the word about it. I'll probably keep ignoring it though, I practiced a bunch with it after getting it and I can only ever pull it off 10% of the time, it just ends up making fights harder for me.

In the arenas where I think I'm supposed to use it (turrets and the like shooting while you fight enemies) I've literally found it easier to just dodge all those shots until after I beat the enemies and then try to unbounded counter the turrets then

That's a REALLY bad idea to just ignore it as it will become mandatory as you progress through the game.

Really? So far I can just dodge around these attacks and then parry the regular attacks for an opening. Do you mean it's a bad idea because unbounded counter will speed up dealing damage to a boss or do you mean that it's literally impossible to beat future bosses without doing this move?

Because I'll be honest. I might just stop playing if it's the latter and I hit that point. There's just something about this move that is completely unintuitive. Even against turrets with a predictable fire pattern I still only hit it about 10% of the time. I usually waste 1 or 2 health vials every time I need to do an unbounded counter to open up a new exploration path.

You still can defeat everything without using it, but it makes fights harder and you get less chances to counterattack.

I assure you, that it is quite good move, but you just need to train a bit. I am now even able to parry snipers shots which one shots them ( I actually checked, if it will work just for fun and to see how i am getting hit. I wasnt ready to parry this on my first try)

my success rate for unbound counters was probably around 25% while my success rate for regular parry and dodge was probably 90+ % or so. i found a way to avoid unbound counter in every situation, not because i dont think it was a cool move but because i think it was hard to pull off.
taking out the final boss with no unbound counters was problematic.

I found it was perfectly fitting for Lady Ethereal to be honest. You do internal damage even if you do the counter on her doubles. Having the Jade that allows you to dash down helps a lot for landing them more consistently.

Yeah it's definitely weird... I would say my success rate with it is probably 60%. I think what makes it kind of feel off is that I think it's actually ready BEFORE the big flashy red animation. So I think the animation tricks your brain into thinking you need to hold it for longer than you actually do.

That's a pretty cool trick, looks like it makes the third phase of the fight much quicker.
