Stuttering on Steam Deck
The game keeps pausing and cutting out the audio for a split second during action when playing on the Steam Deck. Anyone else encountered this?

Nope not in the little that I’ve played so far, that’s odd. If I experience it I’ll be sure to let you know.

Did you put the graphics up to high or left it on medium? Maybe that could be part of it.

Just to be sure, did you put a manual TDP and/or custom refresh rate ? That could be it. I have the game but I've yet to try it on my steam deck, I actually played the beginning on my PC (and it's a blast)

Nope, only thing I changed was in game. Graphics to Medium, VSync off & Limit FPS on.

I’ve only played close to an hour so I’m expecting likely to run into some issues. I just haven’t experienced any pausing or audio issues as of now.

Well, I'm playing it through a TV in 1080p and put the graphics to high. I'm also using Proton GE. Not sure if any of that would effect it. I don't think it's a performance issue, it's running solidly at 60fps. It kind of reminds me of when games used to sometimes pause to load a sound effect off a disk. It only happens during combat and seems to sync up with when an attack or parry lands.

You're gonna have to record this somehow, to tell if it's actually an issue or you misinterpreting something. Because what you just described sounds a lot like the very intentional "impact" effect, which is a gamefeel thing. Similar to "juice" (making things move a lot reacting to input/impact), there's a load of other kinds though they're not as well defined. Terms like "sticky friction" and "crunch" sometimes get thrown around.
There's a similar effect in Hollow Knight when you get hit. Stuff pauses for a split second, then big impact sound. Plenty of other games have it too, though how noticeable it is varies.

Nah, it's 100% not a impact effect because the audio completely cuts out during it including music. I've also gotten into the next area and it seems to just happening when running around somtimes. I've tried disabling vsync and dropping the graphics too, neither helped. I guess I'll try verifying the files

Sorted it. I was using Proton GE. I switched to Proton 9.0-1 and the issue is gone

Glad you figured it out 👍

How did you do this? I'm receiving the same issue you had but I have no idea what Proton is or how to change it.

For what it's worth, it's hapenning for me too on my living room computer, Windows 11 hooked to and amp and a tv. So there is something fishy with the sound, I have no clue why.

Edit : fixed it by upping the audio quality settings in windows, no clue why it wasn't at the highest bitrate. Only nine sols thus gar was giving me trouble with that tho
