Boy, getting up The Mountain is a tribulation
I'd done some inadvertent 'grinding' just by revisting older biomes to try to best old monsters that I wasn't equipped for in the past or to find unlocks that I'd missed, and maybe that made me complacent, those energy rewards small as they were. Nothing prepared me for The Mountain though, some paths between gates are TOUGH.

I never got there before the AI director changes so I don't know if it's a consequence of that, but the spawning was hot and heavy. At first I was overwhelmed, I lost a few very lucrative runs just because of the Nanook + variants.

My advice is to ignore the fire imp things unless you have nothing else to take care of, focus everything you have on the Nanooks as soon as you see them, and use the fire/flash magic as soon as they get close.

Yeah there's lots of ways to approach it. I like using the flash (and sledge) myself. I tend to go fairly heavy magic towards the end, but there's lots of stealth buffs lately as well.

Generally the AI director is going to make it easier than it was before by making sure only so many creatures try to track you at once. If you run into a crowd though, it doesn't stop them from aggroing you.

The change of pace and going from wide open biomes to such a tight one took a bit of getting used to. Even with level 11 in the sneak skill stealth wasn't really much of an option in the final stretches. Stumbling into one of those 'oasis' areas where all the re-equip stones just for there to be a huge spawn was a lot of fun, felt like a zombie survival game hah.

I found a few places where you could fall down or otherwise get stuck, I noticed in the key bindings there is 'B' for debug locations, does that save coordinates that are useful for you?

Yeah actually it does. Those goes into C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Foretold\Saved\SaveGames as BugComments.sav and saves the exact player position and camera rotation. Super handy for stuff like falling into gaps, floating rocks/trees. If you want to you can send it to justpurkeygamesllc@gmail.com and I can load it up and seal the gaps.

Glad you liked those re-equip areas, I thought that would be an interesting change from the usual 100% safe restock of the portals.

That's good to know about stealth not working out totally for you though near the end. I have been thinking about some of people's suggestions and the possibility for other kinds of equipment. All TBD though.

Just thought I'd share my 2 cents on the matter of Stealth - I leveled it with priority and it is level 10 for me (maximum as far as I know). I'm playing on Normal difficulty and the game felt quite easy at times (I'm not complaining - I prefer it this way) - it's probably related to the buff to damage from Stealth that I read about. I literally 1 shot the bloody legendary skeleton thing near the top of the mountain with the necessary 1-2 combo with the 2 arrow types. I was also killing Legendary creatures in 2-3 shots (even those on the Mountain) with the metal arrow from Stealth.

Overall a great game that I thoroughly enjoyed playing, but I found the ending a bit ambiguous - no idea what it was supposed to mean or what the text in the achievement means...

Now, time to go back to the Crimson forest to try and find that legendary squid 🦑

It is meant to be a bit ambiguous, but I'd say if you notice what happens to your hand as you get sense powers and how that relates to which ending you get, that probably gives you an idea of what youv'e done.

Interesting. So the changes to the hand were related to getting powers. Interesting... - similarly to what happened to most visitors of the axis unseen, the player character got altered in some way. Now I am curious about the true ending with no powers.

Nate did slyly slip in a comment about the tattoos perhaps being unsavory in the second dev play through;

>You might notice my hand looks a little weird now too, now that I've collected a few powers. I wonder if that's a good idea? Who knows...

I was already well into my play through by that point so I made a note but realized it was too late to start again. That said I never really learned enough from the in-game lore or the ending to understand why powers were bad. I only found about a third of the scrolls though.

FWIW don't feel bad if you get the Path of the Serpent for your first ending. My assumption is that is what everyone will do the first time. :) Narratively, the game is partially about how the pursuit of power leads to corruption.
I am not kidding, I though the green marks was just the powers and not leading me to the mountain. I followed them with the first quiver and thats it. I got all the powers but not all magic. I climbed that mountain in 2 hours, killed nothing, and made it. Now I hunt for the water arrows and every creature.
