Controller aiming is a bit funky
There is something pretty off feeling about the aiming on controller.

I think it's a few things: (I'm using an Xbox Series controller)

Deadzone is a bit too large

Acceleration being too drastic when reaching full stick deflection

The sensitivity on up/down is much different than left/right. This sometimes makes it difficult to look up and down at the same time as looking left or right. It also results in situations where you are turning left or right quickly, then if you slightly move the stick up or down it will drop your turn speed to like 25% when it registers an up/down direction.

The worst aspect of this is that looking in any diagonal direction (up and left, down and right, etc) is extremely slow.

I'll dig into it, maybe I could make those customizable? I don't treat vertical or horizontal any different though. It feels good on my end and plays well with my 360, Series S and Deck controllers though.

Thanks for the feedback

Yeah I just double checked this and I 100% don't treat horizontal and vertical any different.

The deadzone/full acceleration comments are great ideas and I'm adding them to my list (it would be post-ship) so people can customize it.

However you might want to see if you customized your controller in some way to make it do that for the horizontal/vertical difference.

If you have the stick at full left or right deflection so you are turning at maximum speed then slide the stick up or down so it is at the diagonal up/down direction the turning speed stays the same? For me it drops the turning speed to about 1/4 maximum.

This is very apparent if you try to look in a diagonal direction as opposed to looking directly left or right.

Even doing a simple test like move the stick to full left or right deflection and see how fast the camera moves. Then move the stick to full up or down deflection and notice that the camera moves much more slowly.

There is nothing weird set up for my controller, it works great in other games

Yeah I'm not seeing that. Is anyone else seeing that? I checked a 360 controller, Series S and a Steam Deck.

Also happening to me with an Xbox One controller. Directly left and right spins really fast, but tilting up or down slightly slams the brakes on. I often have slightly less sensitivity on the vertical axis for games that give me the option, but this feels weird for some reason.

Weird, I'll dig into it some more and analyze the controller inputs. Thanks for the heads up.
