battle dungeons and another life are the best ways. i remember farming a ♥♥♥♥ ton of money and materials in the last battle dungeon in the original ishin

If you get high grades in battle, do as Some Random Guy suggests above otherwise do it by save scumming rng-based activities that can potentially generate large amounts of ryo.

If that fails, go split wood.

Speaking of splitting wood. Besides the starter area in Tosa. Is there a woodcutter around in Kyo?

The very first zone after Tosa has one. Going out of the Inn you stay at, go along the riverside right to the the end of the path. Once you turn two corners, you'll see an open area with an old man and a wood chopping block.
If you want to find it map-wise, the leftmost restaurant is a slim, horizontal rectangle, the old man is behind (south) of it.

Good ol' gambling, I made around 30 ryo just by playing poker for 10 mins. Make sure you play high stakes.

Early on fishing is pretty good. You can rack up virtue pretty fast to get the highest level pole, and then sell your catches to the pawn broker. Plus it's relaxing.

Cho Han is the best one, betting against the dealer brings you a stupid amount of money, a friend of mine managed to get 96000 points(240 Ryo) by winning all 5 rounds

I find my favorite way to farm that sweet, sweet Ryo is to so to A Second Life and grind my crop plots to Max level and then proceed to grow nothing but Gensing. then after a stack of 300 or two I take them to Ebisu Pawnshop and mass sell them. if I have the equipment this is where I would wear my most Greedy money Seals wherever applied. it's a great way to passively make money between chapters and if I want to get my hands (extremely) dirty, cap slot my inventory space with Fertilizer and boost the Gensing and entering the house and walking back out to the shed, rinse and repeat until I've applied 20 fertilizer and the next Gensing harvest should be ready. each harvest yields about 70-77 Gensing.

It's a little tedious but the while process takes about 3-4 minutes and each stack of 99 earns me 24 Ryo 7500 Mon hee-hee.

Im at the last chapter and was broke and couldn't afford any HP pots. What i did was the life mini game and dungeons. Went from 1 ryo to 20 in about an hour. No idea if its any good but hey i can finally finish the game because its very hard without these pots lol
