like a dragon series has never been AAA game. They don't have the budget for that.

Yeah then why translate it into english at all? Just keep it as it is. Definitely don't want to lose things in translation. I'd rather listen than read. Yakuza: LAD dub was great and this is simply no effort, with an bad excuse.
this is just a bad take. Anyone that plays these games with or wanting an English Dub is just wrong. Sorry. (I don't watch anime but same applies to most animes also.)
why is it wrong to want an english dub? the past few games RGGS released had pretty damn good english dubs so why shouldnt people want more
this game is pretty much a remaster in my eyes, from what i see it's just a translated engine swap of a game from 2014 so i feel that the $60 price tag is asking too much. its not like the game is bad, but its pretty dated and i think it should be like 20 or 30 dollars

Yeah. They said it was a remake in a new engine so I had assumed they actually remade and improved things, making the price tag worth it.

Definitely not worth what they're asking for. This feels like a pretty low effort port.

I don't know how the game ends, but their decision to replace characters with the 0 actors kinda spoils stuff I think. Also that Steam card I got for the game might be a spoiler for who the ninja is as well. If so, they really didn't care.

Oh and don't forget how the DLC is tied to your account, and it's broken so if you redeem it with not enough inventory slots, it will tell you you don't have the space. And then will take away those items so you can't redeem it after you clear up inventory. So dumb.
In my country it costs 20 dollars 😂😂
Why is it then sold as full priced game?

Answer: They added Denuvo which isn't a free anti-piracy software. Gotta pay the bills somehow.

English dub literally would've made 0 sense and they even stated that they didn't want to lose things in translation.

From what they said when bringing the game over, the Japanese phonetics is an older style to capture the time period properly that would have been a harder job to have an English job convey properly in the dub lip syncing. It would feel really weird to have a Japanese period piece that centers on the fears of foreign invaders disrupting Japan would feel odd with English coming out of their mouths.

This is preference but I feel like these games are best in Japanese regardless, with the English dubs being more for accessibility with the recent success in the West justifying the price and time to produce it and better translators on the script then in 2006.
It's not a AAA games it's a Yakuza game what they lack in certain aspects of a AAA game they make up for in tons of content it takes forever to truly complete a Yakuza game and it has amazing voice acting and great characters, but really if being honest this is a AA game masquerading as an AAA game.
Way too expensive for how clunky it is... feels like its straight out of 2014, and my three hours playing has been miserable
i am totally new to the games, I've heard and watched some streams of the Yakuza games, but this samurai setting caught my eye, and Skillup said he enjoyed this game more than the last Yakuza game he played. So I am interested in maybe picking it up
Idk I've quite liked the game for the roughly 5 hours I've played so far, i don't understand any of the complaints about quality, personally the game looks beautiful and plays well, and while Im not very interested in the celeb card bundle, it is a FREE optional pack? if you dont want it just dont download it? was the price tag a bit heavy? sure, but its not like the game will never go on sale, even before release you can find website that have both editions of the game discounted as much as 15%. I believe it is a little unfair to compare the game to Lost Judgement seeing as this is a remake of an older title more comparable to the kiwami games.
I like the game. The only issue is how most of the sidequests are time consuming. Like speaking to the same person on the same spot multiple time or buying items from the shop at x times.

> yakuza 0 was incredibly well priced when it came to PC

It was also released over a year and a half after the initial western release on PS4, so it can't be compared to this. This is a brand new release that's not hit the west before, released day and date on all platforms worldwide. They've had to port everything from the old engine to UE4, recreate enhanced fidelity assets, re-record dialogue, translate the game to 8 languages, add a glossary so people understand the historical references, QC everything etc. Whilst I'm not a fan of certain things they've changed between this and the Japanese PS4 original, they're well within their right to release this as a full priced game due to the sheer amount of effort and work put into it.

So lets try to put all this together. Compared to making a whole new game, the time/cost/effort would be say 33%. Lets be even more generous for the purpose of this example. Say it took 50% of these costs compared to a whole new game.

Why is it then sold as full priced game?
Why wasn't some amount of additional costs being used to make improvements, to actually make up for the high price?

It's lazy cash grab pushed to a worldwide market, just because it's easy money for them. If I knew it was meant only for hardcore Yakuza game fans who'd be happy with bare minimum and full price, I'd never bought it.

this is a pretty bad take, with the new engine and redone visuals effectively the only thing the team didn't need to do when compared to a new game is the original Japanese script and general art direction, to say that the team at RGG did NOTHING to justify a 60 dollar price tag would just be kinda stupid, this is the first time ever that this game has been localised for a global audience, they had to not just translate the script but adapt cultural references and add additional context to the script for 8 additional languages, not to mention the amount of work needed to port all the systems from the original game into a newer modern engine.

the Yakuza series has always been kind of a gamble outside of Japan that is why we never got physical releases of the 4th and 5th games in north america, in fact we almost never got them at all. even considering how successful as the Yakuza series has been in recent years it has been and continues to be a Niche franchise this is proved by some simple research, the most popular game in the series thus far (yakuza 0) had ~2 million copies sold as of November 2021, the series AS A WHOLE had ~20 million cumulative sales as of October of 2022 with only about 2.8 million of those sales on PC, for context Sega also owns the Total War franchise which as of October 2022 had ~40 million total sales in about the same amount of time. since 2005 the sonic franchise has earned roughly 60 million sales.

this game was not "easy money" and the idea that this remake is a "lazy cash grab only meant for hardcore Yakuza fans" is frankly quite silly.
We finally get to play the origins here, I think its pretty good. The setting is awesome and all the side characters have been pretty charming so far. Sure some of the systems are out dated but I think the game holds up well overall, some of the sounds are a bit spongy but you can never go wrong with more baka mitai.
i wasn't expecting a miracle so I don't mind how it feels like a pre-Dragon Engine release. That said, the shader compilation stutters are inexcusable given the visual fidelity shown here. Good thing there's been official acknowledgment.
