Always liked side story stuff. I just hate it when quests repeat itself or its always some fetch me this and that bullcrap :D
it's an old game, doesn't justify the AAA price
I checked out a few videos so i can see a bit of the combat and something that REALLY bugs me is attacks visually going through an enemy but the hit is not registered.
Is this a known issue or is there a mechanic i just don't know about that makes this "a thing". So weird, just adds to the low effort feeling :P
So far it has, in fact, wowed me. The late Edo setting is fantastic and I find the long combo based combat system to be super satisfying.
I'm playing on the highest difficulty setting (Ishin) and I get souls/nioh vibes just fighting random bandits. One wrongly timed sword thrust or missed parry often leads to 5 dudes delivering instant death by bukkake
This game is very noiry, which I absolutely love!
Also I frankly see no reason to switch to unreal engine...like just to get the night time right? Doesn't even support HDR! IMHO their own DE would've been a better choice over forcing their team to work on UE for something that LOOKS dated YET struggles to be smooth on my 4080 !?!? It looks like a lift n shift to UE with translated game and some new stuff that no one really asked for but "good" to have.
Other problem is I've been spoiled by Lost Judgement's combat....so was expecting it to be at that level or at least more fine tuned....the game has neither. If you're a fan...get it or else just wait for a sale.
I get why some people really liked LJ's combat but I personally never really developed a taste for it despite like 200 hours of playtime. I'm definitely liking Ishin's a lot more.
That said, imo Y7 had by far the best system of the whole franchise, but then again I love jrpg's so idk.
In terms of combat, I believe this game shares Yakuza 0's combat engine and it feels like 0 because of that. But I think that the weapons and styles available keep it fresh so that you wouldn't feel burnout if you play Yakuza 0 and move on to this. For me, this is a problem I had playing Yakuza Kiwami right after Yakuza 0 because the combat was literally copy-pasted. And one of the styles, Wild Dancer, is super satisfying to use.
I actually don't mind the graphics. At least on Ultra High, it seems like Y0 graphics but they touched up the anti-aliasing and now the contrast is a lot better. It definitely is a downgrade tho from the Dragon Engine RGG games.
The full price is because this is the first release outside of Japan. For those of us in the West it is a new game (well, unless you're a fanboi like me and bought the PS4 J version on initial release).
It's nice to actually understand what's going on versus bumbling around on the J version like I did because my Japanese is pretty weak.
