Seriously, fire the designers and playtesters
Just a sampling of what's in the demo:

I'm at a pond of fresh water but I can't drink.
I can cut down a tree but I can't get Sticks, only planks that won't let me make tools.
Brown rocks give sand, no stone. Have to find green rocks to get stone or scavenge around for more stone.
Durability of basic tools goes down ludicrously fast.
Your tools literally "tap" the node and then it falls over.
Dying of hunger because I can't scavenge enough raspberries.

I don't care if devs go to a formal game-dev school but FFS play some games in the genre you're trying to make a game in.

Even Nightingale debuted better than this.

UPDATE: SO LAME that the devs forcibly choose the "solution" to this post with their lame answers. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1805110/discussions/0/600771424734417767/#c600771424734464335

„Brown Rock“ is Sandstone. We dind‘t want to add a 5th tool (shovel) to not make it too complicated

„Green Stone“ is just normal stone with moss. We like an artstyle where objects blend with the environment.

Drinking from a water pond would be too overpowered and there would be no need to care about thirst anymore if you could do that. But thats why we introduce the rain collector as one of the first things in the research table.

The first tip in the loading screen and the first tip in the survival guide (and also in the tutorial) are about planting raspberries early for a steady food supply. If you follow that tip/tutorial, you wont have any problems with hunger in the demo.

There will be probably tiers of tools with different qualities. Every survival craft game is a grind in the beginning when you're probably naked and on bare hands. First rule when starting a new game like this or even participating in a survival TV show, do everything faster in the first hours, look for food, resources, RTFT (the last T being the tutorial in case there any doubts). You can literally prosper in the first 20 minutes.

Planks can be turned into sticks at anytime and you can get stone from normal gray/white stones as well as green ones, not just by picking them up. Even the large ones can be broken. You can grow wheat and berries and get drinking water from rain catchers to survive.

Did we play the same game? This is one of the most polished demos in the next fest IMO. Runs great and very easy to understand. The only issue I had was the flying mouse sensitivity being super high.

So I just want to throw out there, Nightingale also debuted as early access. It didn't release a play testing demo first. I feel like comparing the two isn't fair.

This demo is really meant to gather feedback and give a very rough impression of what could be included in a final product. If this doesn't seem like something for you and don't like the direction you can say so without making it aggressive or making jabs at the devs. They didn't make you pay money to play test their game

How do you turn the planks into sticks? I was wondering about that but didn't see a way to do it.

For the OP plant the raspberry seeds and then you will have enough food, and build the water catchment for drinking.

This demo seems alot like the building system in Fountain of Youth, but the nice thing is that nothing is trying to eat you alive.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

in this case i would simply say...if you have no idea or are too incompetent...

Sorry, that's not meant as an insult.
i played the demo completely and had NO problems doing anything. I only died occasionally from falling damage, not from hunger and not from thirst. even getting stones was no problem at all.

"Game isn't like the others i know so its bad" dude, we don't need clones, we need new things. this is new.
Saito Feb 25 @ 1:11am
also dying is a thing?good lord you have to be really bad at games hum? that's actually kinda hilarious.
Jukebox Feb 25 @ 1:38am
Gonna be honest, had zero issues like you're describing.

Sticks and stones respawn ludicrously fast as to be a non-issue, with some patience for scouring the ground a bit.
Once you plant the raspberry seeds you start with, you get more than enough raspberries to survive.
Ponds are stagnant, and liable to make you sick; you're thinking of running water, and even that's just 'safer' to drink and not 100% safe.

I mean no offence, but as someone who also has this issue sometimes, I think you're just too quick to make this out as an issue with the game, than as an issue with the player. Sorry.

Seriously....why should they fire the designers and playtesters? They did a very good job. I think you should play on your Nightingale if its so much better. In my eyes its defenitely not but I also think that you cant compare this two games.
Tachyon Feb 25 @ 2:08am
Pffft, OP, it's a skill issue. You have none.

Sure you cant drink it. NEVER drink water from a pond ! Just like in RL.

You can craft sticks from planks.

Its how you say, "basic tools".

How can you die of hunger ?! you can plant unlimited rasberys.
orosdievis Feb 25 @ 9:58am
This post screams "I played for 5 mins, didn't read a single thing on screen, and am surprised I haven't discovered basic features".

Why would chopping down a tree give you nice planks? It should give you logs from the trunk and sticks from the branches.
The hoe could have been used to collect sand if you didn't want a shovel.

And we can't drink from a pond because it would be overpowered? WTF.
Why do you think historically people tried to build settlements NEAR WATER?
How about crafting water bottles and making the distance between water sources a bit farther?

When you don't allow intuitive things, don't expect anyone other than internet white knights to congratulate you for it.

In other words, you read absolutely nothing that the game told you, got frustrated, then came here you vent.

And even after the devs answer you, you're still salty about it! :piglaugh:
