This is something that could put me off buying the game as well, if adjustments are not made to make it more user friendly, and easier to drive for those of us that suck at driving in games. It was a real bummer as I enjoyed the rest of the demo.
Yes, I believe Space is ascend and Left Shift is descend, though, it's kind of slow. It seems faster to angle up or down and move forward to gain or lose elevation.
There's a white symbol above your island's Dock. You can't miss it when you're at the Merchant.
Or add a ship upgrade like a "Flight stick inverter" you can craft or buy. That would be cool.
Perhaps an end-game upgrade you can add to your landing docks that automates the flight between them. I'd be down for that, but removing free-form flight altogether seems like we'd be losing a feature rather than improving on the game.
While I do agree that the flight controls were a bit loose and not very precise, it didn't take me that long to be capable and comfortable enough to get around. I think if you had the option to invert the vertical control stick for flying, it would alleviate all the complaints.
Also, same request as others. Please at least make an auto return home option possible or make docking easier. Crashed 20 times before I could adjust the position to dock at home.
