Just sit so close to your screen that you can't see the pillarboxing.

I understand that 4:3 is part of the style, but... Still, it would be nice to have the option to make 16:9 for convenience.

go to settings on your tv or monitor and change to custom resolution!
you can stretch it out to widescreen! works great! doesnt look to stretched out!
i also use that for some ps1/ps2 games on ps5!

Crutches. Stretching an image is not the same as the game's initial support for the desired aspect ratio.
