I mean a game going for a retro look is all fine and well but I can barely make out anything from the screenshots

The game has virtually no detail(in the screenshots). I have 20/20 vision(or better) using a 55" 4k screen.

That was actually when I started gaming, and that was what 30 years ago or something? From memory, even those games looked better. By better I mean that you can actually properly make out what is on the screen. They were held back by technology then. It makes no sense to do it now, and do it so poorly.

if you dont understand the point of the graphics being emulated in such an old style then im gonna be blunt, THATS A YOU PROBLEM. The dev is clearly making a passion project and the style and visuals are what THEY want them to be, not every game has to be made for everyone nor should it. If you arent into it then move on simple as that.
