Unicorn poop?

So I interacted with the turnips but had already killed all the unicorns. So I teleported away to do some other quests in the meantime. When I came back, the turnips had already been nibbled and no poop were to be found anywhere..
Did I lock myself out of finishing this quest or am I missing something obvious? :S
