They are not invincible. They just have A LOT of health. if you are struggling with the small cursed zombies my advice is keep grinding more gold to get stronger cause on higher levels, you will encounter cursed heavies and those cursed exploding zoms and those definitely have way more health the normal cursed ones.
As of rn there is no feature to lock the level, only a feature to increase / decrease the level you start and a feature to slow down or speed up the level.
at start its best to first take the perk for more drop money and more money drops on melee kills.
when you kill a cursed z it drops a weapon, mostly better than what you can get from chest on the saem infection level. they are only dmg sponges and a little more resilent to elemental staggers.

Since they can’t be knocked back, melee is a bad idea. Just unload into them until they’re dead.
Elite zombies
They can take more, not more, not less.
Melee is OP. They don't break, they have no durability.
And once you get the hang of it, they're exploding enemies, which is no longer a problem with melee combat.
Sure, it'll get more and more expensive, but since you get 100% of your gold back and can change skills at any time, it's okay and fair, but not without its initial cost, when costs keep rising. xd
And yes, you're not forced to if you don't want to, but it's still not a mistake to have the flaming sword.
If you have it and upgrade with a medikit, you'll be glad you have it. It makes a lot of things easier at the beginning, plus the perks, and it works.
