Poor Performance
Really enjoying the game but what I'm not enjoying is that it's putting as much strain on my hardware as the most high fidelity AAA titles out there. I can feel my entire room warming up as I play this game as it forces my top of the line PC to run as hard as it possibly can, and for what? This game should barely put enough strain on my system to raise it above idle temperatures as far as I'm concerned.

I don't like running my PC that hard for extended periods of time and for games that stress test it like that I take frequent breaks to try and avoid it having a negative impact on the lifespan of the parts, but this is not the kind of game that I feel I should have that kind of concern for. I should not be having to stop playing this game because its stress testing my PC.

You're worrying about it too much, your GPU's lifespan won't be degraded by any meaningful amount even if you fully stressed it 24/7. They are literally designed for this purpose, if you want to be real nitpicky you're talking about maybe a few days worth of reduced lifespan on a component that will last for several years at constant, full load.

More often than not, IF they fail, it's due to user error or a manufacturing defect.

If it generates that much heat, improve your airflow. Improve your ventilation or limit the FPS.

The game is running on Unreal Engine, which will make proper use of your available resources. Doesn't really matter how 'simple' the art style may be.

I didn't realize it was running the unreal engine but that makes sense, every game I've played that uses it is terribly optimized. Even limiting the fps to 60 made no noticeable difference because like you said no matter what unreal will waste every bit of performance headroom you give it.

I just don't see the point in making excuses for poor optimization, just because on good hardware it manifests as high temperatures and high power draws instead of stuttering and frame drops doesn't make it okay.

Even if my concern for the longevity of the parts is overblown I still don't want my games to literally waste my money supplying an unnecessary amount of power into my PC to turn it into a personal space heater that then has to be air conditioned because its not winter anymore.

PCs becoming more powerful is no excuse to let your engine become an inefficient piece of ♥♥♥♥ with no concern for optimization, but I understand now that it's an engine limitation and that there's not much the developer themselves can do to remedy it, it's just a shame things have gotten this bad.
I noticed this in the demo. My gpu sits at 100% even just sitting at the setup area. Elden Ring probably stresses my computer less than this.
+1 to the thread; i've got a laptop on the lower end of the minimum specs, and lowering all graphic options + the resolution to the minimum still makes the game run poorly more than half of the time. Dear devs, the game is good fun, please think about a performance optimization pass or two if you have the time <3

On Steam Deck, the battery life for this game is 1.5-2 hours even on low settings. I can limit the framerate to 30, but for a game like this I feel like I shouldn’t have to do that.

I love playing Zombieville, I just wish I could play it longer without charging.

I've got the same problem. My Steam Deck fans are running full throttle! Enjoying the game though.
You may want to knock Rendering Quality in Graphics Options down to high or medium. On maximum it makes my old gpu cry.

1.8 gb download took way to long, started the game up pc just went full on like i was rendering a 4k after-effects file. Changed some settings still takes as much performance as alot of high AAA games.

Looks like a mobile game, small download took way to long and performance trouble on high end PC even got an error message that a program couldn't load cause it was blocked.

After 1 hour i noticed that it has a worse gameplay loop than other similar types of games i played so i refunded it. I'm glad for the people who like the game but something is not right, why does a game like this that has the word mobile game on it need as much performance or even more than high end games?

This has to be the worst optimized game of this genre out there.
Or something is using the GPU in the background to mine stuff.

if you are worried just disable DLAA

yup get a hard freeze as soon as I kill a zombie. looked up my alley

if you have performance issues disable DLAA and set everything to medium
disable raytracing
enable DLSS performance mode

with DLAA at high quality rendering I get 100 FPS
with DLSS performance I get 170+ FPS
this is all with raytracing off

GPU usage with DLAA is 40%

Id be interested in what hardware you have Sticks. I have a i9 12900k, and a 7900XT and yes, if i let it go framerate uncapped at 4k, it does produce a ton of heat, but if i lock it down to 60fps, it doesnt seem to produce much heat or noise. Also, im not overclocked or undervolted or anything. Also i have RT off so maybe if you have RT on it puts a huge load?

I'm having the same problem with a intel nuc iris igpu, hard freeze as soon the first zombie killed, made it unplayable
