Skip MMBN4 or make sure to use a playthrough guide
I would suggest if you can, skip MMBN4 it has horrifically bad level design and majority involves boring and tedious fetch quests spanning to multiple areas you previously visited. There are some puzzles that expect you to know how to decode and other 'puzzles' that make you scour and press A on every single object in every city to search for 15 or so objects.

There's also a matter of multiple playthroughs to unlock all the chips.

If this does not persuade you from avoiding mmbn4 all together, or you are really interested in whatever plot is in this game. Either watch them on youtube or follow a play guide to get through all the gimmick and horrible puzzles of this game.

mmbn4 is one of my favorite titles, it introduces dark chips, 4 is more focused on the PvP elements, the fetch quests and stuff are just to aid you in getting chips for PvP and also using the navis you have in other people's FTs.

Don't forget mash A before getting sucked into the black hole in the last level.

Personally I really like bn4 though it was my introduction to the megaman franchise as a whole so nostalgia may be a bit of a blinder for me there.

Me too, was my first one - played it on my modded PSP. :D Was a long time ago now.

What I liked compared to 3 is the chip damage/power level the player has access to scales up more in your favor compared to 3's (that is, youre more on even grounds with enemy navis). It ramps up even better in 5 (esp thanks to chaos unison) and 6 as well (EX: Canon goes 40/100/200 (I think)).

This is all well and fair.

But let's talk about the Tora Quests in BN3 and how they are an affront to all that is good and pure in this world.

Some of the mini games on 4, especially the cooking one is gonna put major calluses on your thumbs. The roaming around town and looking for everything is true. It's easy to get soft locked.

Eh, I remember the blisters from too much Smash 64. The really funny part is that this was in a hospital (mental ward, mind you, but that still doesn't explain why they had a known vessel for self-harm in there :steamhappy:)

One of the Mario Party games was actually recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission; you could claim up to 4 protective gloves to prevent injury playing it. Wonder if they ever investigated if the controller design itself was to blame?

Skip. BN4 is not all bad, you can see the effort. But it feels like someone there in the team wanted to make us suffer in the most obnoxious way.
They added randomicity to a title that don't need it, it's so easy to use a key in code to check what scenarios was seen in the previous playthroughs so they will never be repeated, or to make sure NG2 gives stronger chips as drops so the battles are at least fair.

From all of the later three games, BN4 feels like it was rushed in so many ways at the same time it feels they wanted something BIG from it. IT's the game with the most places to visit, with the most Net Areas, and still, it's the game with the MOST ANNOYING Mini Games ever, and with a freaking dumb story when you start looking at it.

There's so many bad scenarios while only one or two are actually good, it's insane.

So no, I would suggest you to skip it. Even with a Guide. It's just bloated with stuff they could have at least made it better. I think that of all BN titles it;s the most unfair of them too, in a lot of ways.

I just gave up on my second playthrough once the game instead of giving me TWO SOULS, decided to pair me the last match with JunkMan AGAIN.
Also souls are so bad in this game, they are not useful at all, on Blue Moon only Number Soul is useful.

Again: It's just not as good of a game.

I think all games have good and bad but BN4 is the only one where both versions are just bad.

BN5 I still prefer Protoman over Colonel since the Souls on Protoman are better.
BN6 I prefer gregar for the exact same reason. But on BN4, both versions are just annoying, and it constantly feels the game is fighting against you.

Man, the version of the bosses on second playthrough, even with good chips are just impossible on BN4, frankly what do I need to do? Cheat to fetch good chips, because I celarly am not getting stronger ones, and navi cust is also harder since you only get spins on subsequent playthroughs AND you cannot compress them or put them one square outside of bounds which other games allows it as long as you have bugstop.

Again, eh.

To me, it's a shame Double Team DS wasn't ported, that is the definitive version of BN5. Especially since you kinda can use other version characters on your current ver and it's very good and opens a lot of cool stuff. Again, Why Capcom let out such good versions, both BN1 and BN5 have DS ports with better quallity of life stuff. xD
