Guts Shoot PA in MMBN3

I'm reading the gamefaqs and it says the guts shoot PA (guard + dash + gutsman) hits one enemy and also spreads to adjacent squares yet i'm using it many times and it has not spread its damage to any square at all, it just remains a 1 hit PA. Am i missing something here? Or perhaps i'm playing the wrong version? I'm playing White version btw.

It hits a + shape when it hits and that's that.

But that's the problem. If I target enemy A and there is enemy B and C to the east and north of my target, once i press the button to hit Enemy A there is no spread shot, it's only a single hit attack.
