Honestly let's just say thank heavens the bosses in this game are so much easier than any battle network game imo.
That explains why it can take dozens of hours to encounter a boss.....
But that is just a theory. However, when I played BN1 in this collection, that helped me. To the point of saving in a specific spot after I located the navi. However, After several encounters, the navi may change the place a little bit (a few blocks) or move to another part of the map.
Maybe my theory works for me because the button input depends on your location and how you move. You just cannot press specific buttons in some places.
For example, if you move diagonally, it counts less steps, so fewer encounters and more predictable results. Moving with up, down, left, right (not according to the isometric paths) provides less predictable results and more encounters.
