but also I only own BN3 for GBA (was dumb as a kid) and have no legit way of dumping the ROMs and I’ll usually only download something I don’t own if I can’t buy it officially. Mega Man usually never sells crazy and Capcom looks at sales to continue series, so if you want to support it, keep that in mind
It also includes the powerful e-Reader chips that were never released.
Lastly, this restored some of the Japanese effects that got removed or altered in the English version, like the Jacking In and Navi Customizer effects in BN3.
And of course, it has online trading and PvP.
This is a legal option that has all the games and some extras. Pricing aside, this is what everyone should be getting, but I keep seeing more people encouraging piracy instead.
If you don't care about achievements or 100% completion, if you just want to speed through the games or are a speedrunner, then stick with the emulators.
I'm a sheep who has bought these titles every time they've come up for purchase (GBA, Wii U, and now Steam). I love these titles and want to play them in a updated version (the current release) so here I am $60 poorer.
Do I think 60 bucks is okay for this collection? Hell no. It's price gouging. But it is from official channels and the money supports the developers/Capcom, and I'm for it for that alone, but the added benefit is that it also gauges the desire to see more MM. There will be sales I'm sure.
Am I okay with Denuvo? No. But then I haven't noticed it be an issue in this collection. I don't really know about all the stuff about the CEO or whatever. Don't care, either. It'll probably get removed down the line.
Do I think ROMs and Emulation is okay? Absolutely. They're an important part of games preservation and I'd be a hypocrite if I kept spouting "this isn't okay, this is priacy" when I do the same thing. The difference however, is when you do it just to do it, or when you do it because you already own the game. I own Breath of the Wild. I also have it emulated on my Steam Deck, and I enjoy mods on my PC. I ripped my own copy of the game.
In the event you can't rip your own copy, but you own the game, absolutely free game to just download a ROM.
If the game is no longer being sold anywhere but 3rd party sites where the money doesn't support devs, I say download what you like. Sail them seas.
But I kinda draw the line in the sand when you pop into a community forum meant for discussing the game and ♥♥♥♥ on it when you didn't buy it or you have some post nut clarity on the purchase and advocate piracy for a product that is now readily available.
But that's just me.
This way you get it easy and legally. Whether this is considered cheap is subjective, but it's definitely cheaper than any other legal means of getting the games. Getting it cheaper will be more complicated and, obviously, not legal. So it's up to you how much you value all these factors
however what makes this better is that its a re-translation of the "JP roms" which include almost all of the censored/removed contents from the OG NA GBA releases (its still missing the cross-over online BN6 contents).
under:"Version differences", here's all the changes from the OG GBA releases & this version.

Do you like denuvo or are okay with it? If yes 1 point for the collection. If no 1 point for the other
Do wanna support the company EVEN if the collection is over priced? If yes 1 point for the collection. If no 1 point for the other
Do you care about a possibility for BN7? If yes 1 point for the collection. If no 1 point for the other.
Do you care about the chip gate function of the 4-6 games? If no 1 point for the collection. If yes 1 point for the other
Both have online multiplayer, both gives you access to missing content. The rom side has BN 5 DS and BN 1 Operation Star Force vastly superior version of 1.
The best option IMO wait for denuvo to be removed and for it to go on a hefty sale if you aren't in a rush 40 or less
What I heard. and which seems at least plausible given developer statements, is that the game uses the roms as data files, so it extracts e.g. the English script from the English rom and applies to to the Japanese version of the games (this why all most the translations are preserved in their original glorious state, the only really new translations seems to be the previously cut content from BN6).
It will be interesting to hear how much if any of the actual gameplay logic is pulled from the roms once modders sink their teeth into this, given that some of the old JP version glitches work, but not all of them it is hard to say for sure.
