REBOOT
I think this is a good opportunity to reboot the battle network series.

There’s no real need to. New people have been introduced to the series now and there is nothing new they can add beyond an engine change

...why though?
There's no point in rebooting a perfectly good series.
I'd much rather have a new series based on this template, basically what Star Force was.

Not rebooting as in wiping out or overwriting the existing plot, story and characters. But as in evolving the series beyond the last game.

That’s not called a reboot, not even close to it. That is called making a sequel using the modern engine

Exactly new people have been introduced to the series. And there is always something new that can be added beyond an engine change.
New characters. New enemies. New location. Improved gameplay. The ability to create your own character and even navi.

That's a sequel, not a reboot.
A reboot specifically is "wiping out or overwriting the existing plot, story and characters"

So just simply say that you want a sequel. Sequels only use the modern engine

Because everyone has their way of interpreting things. If i had said sequel some would interpret it as i want a direct sequel to the story of Lan and Megaman and not a sequel of the franchise itself. Thats why i said reboot. God of War is a sequel. But also a reboot. Doom is a sequel but also a reboot.
The term for those games were SOFT reboots. In the middle of reboot and not a reboot. When you say reboot on its own then your meaning a full reboot but what you described was definitely a sequel cos you want the BN franchise to continue

A game can be both a reboot and a sequel.

So what is i didnt say soft reboot and just said reboot. I didnt think it would have been the end of the world so didnt include it.

Example for a Reboot:
"Castlevania: Lords of Shadows".
It takes concepts and characters from an established canon and starts a new canon with it, completely detached from the original.

Example for Soft Reboots:
DOOM (2016)
DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal tell their own story within their own setting and lore, which can stand on their own. BUT they are also canon compatible and can be inserted after Doom 64.

Example for a Non-Direct Sequel:
Mega Man Star Force.
It takes the Battle Network formula and creates its own series with it, with entirely original characters etc. The Prequel story may have taken place in the same continuity.

Does this help?

I do not think we need a reboot. The series ended satisfyingly. We do need Operation Star Force to be included in a potential Star Force Collection. I also wouldn't mind a Star Force continuation as the series was cut short unfortunately.
