As for sequential order, in all honesty you can skip the first game; the second game alone has so many improvements to the formula it makes the first game feel like a beta. It doesn't help that the first game has some issues that might be frustrating for a newcomer if you aren't prepared for it. The plot in the first game is fairly light, and the second game does catch you up on the important story beats if you skip the first game.
One could enjoy any of the games on their own but it's a much better experience playing through all the stories.
However if someone is worried about the games being hard, the first one is the best to start with as it lacks a lot of the more nuanced mechanics of later entries. It's actually considered so much easier that it's an actual big con towards the title when people rank all the games in the franchise.
At the very LEAST, I would like to play 1 & 2. XD
If you want to enjoy the games for their story, I'd definitely recommend playing though at least 1, 2 & 3 in order.
Depending on how burned out on the series you may or may not feel after finishing 1 through 3, I'd say there's three equally valid routes to take after playing those games:
A.) Call it a day after the original trilogy, as MMBN 1-3 definitely do form a complete story of their own.
B). Skip straight to MMBN6 if at that point you don't feel burned out yet, to be precise the Cybeast Gregar version of MMBN6.
C.) Commit to 4 & 5 before MMBN6 if you feel like you could pull it off
I would start with MMBN 1 and if you like it play MMBN 2-3.
If you still want more MMBN and aren't burned out after 1-3. I recommend playing one version of 4, one version of 5, and one version of 6.
I DO still recommend playing them in order though because the newer games generally make improvements over the old games and that won't work in reverse.
IE if you start with 6 then play 1, it might sour your playthrough of 1 because it is missing things you could do in 6...
