It's so stupid that you can screw up the other quest that you HAVEN'T EVEN GOTTEN YET that early on. You're trying to get a feel for everything and the game happily screws you over for not being clairvoyant.
agreed, terrible game design to include an important quest item so early on, and right next to a quest npc that ask for items that could be confused, its a bit unfair and malicious too.
sure, an error that any player could fix on his next playthrough, but, will I like the game enough to do a second playthrough? will this "malicious" designl repeat on the next levels?
bit disappointed over this, might redo my run or just ♥♥♥♥ it and continue without this quest item.
It is a bit tricky though since the quest where you hand the pickles over comes after you beat the subway level, so I can see why people might get tripped up.
There are two characters in the game, each looking for a few food items. They are minor NPCs and not linked to the main storyline or the major side stories and endings of the game.
In total it's about 10 minutes of the game. There are a couple of achievements related to it and you can get a little extra currency from giving them their preferred items (it's not the main way to earn currency in the game). I wouldn't recommend restarting a playthrough for this content.
Regarding the rest of the game - there is a choice aspect to the main side stories where you can impact the relationships of other characters. These aren't meant to be right or wrong decisions, but there are different reactions from the characters depending on the choices made and they will impact the endings available.
Thank you
Tom
Thanks again and have a nice day
the hotel kitchen cook says he wont free the baker girl unless he gets all 3 ingredients he wants.
We agree it's not fun to be able to give an item requested by the chef away before you've met him and heard the request. It's certainly wasn't our intention to trick people with this.
We're going to move the jar of pickles to be located after you've had a chance to meet the chef for the first time.
Thanks
Tom
I wonder if this mean those of us who already screwed up can retroactively get a second jar if the update drops soon :P
It doesn't change the main story, the major side stories or which of the endings you would have available.
It is a small part of the game. If you don't give the chef all of his requested items, you will still get to see something unique as a result that players who do give the items don't see. There is content both ways for players to experience here as with most interactions in the game.
We didn't intend for these particular interactions to be a major decision in the game, just different outcomes. At the same time, we didn't intend to frustrate people which is why we decided to make the change.
By moving the item we hope to give players access to more information before using it. We would love if people still experiment and enjoy seeing the different reactions/result depending on how the items are used.
I'm not sure if I would be able to retroactively add a second jar in, but I will have a look when I get to this. Please note this is a lower priority for me than some of the bugs that need fixing so it likely won't be adjusted in the next few days.
Thank you
Tom
I might go for a second playthrough once I'm done anyway since I already missed some stuff according to my Chapter 1 score.
