You may be right, Lucy's ending in the achievements is literally called "The Devil You Know". But you would think then Lucy must be just as strong as the Duchess... it's not clear if Lucifer was an arch angel in the bible, just pretty much implied. The Duchess is one, as often mentioned. Lucy has the half of the Duchess name, which must mean that they agreed to a pact, just as Darrel. Maybe the terms of the pact or the reasons for it made them detest each other and Lucy weaker?. Also, Lucy overtakes bodies of humans, which also happens with Michelle in the end. Before Lucy overtakes Michelle's body, they say that they would need to get used to this new name... so Lucy seems to be the name of the girl's body they currently use. Therefore, Lucy could be just some other demon and just gets heavily refered to the devil because of their ill intentions.
2 If I recall correctly it's Chamuel who says that, and I personally think he just said it like that because he wanted to convey that the next time he dies, he is not going to be resurrected, or that he in the form of the angel Chamuel specifically might not exist anymore. And the whole theme of the game is change and finding your footing in new situations. I think death is just a very big change.
3 I think they're just legit scared of another Great Divide happening and becoming demons, and since it happened relatively close to the setting of the story, they might just really want to stick to the rules for the time being.
4 I think Chamuel and the Duchess lost their memories when they became human because they didn't have a human "alter ego" like Robyn, and didn't physically give away "the thing that made them an angel or a demon" like Benedict with his halo.
Also what do you think happened to the Duchess' other victims after romancing the Duchess ? Are there just a bunch of people trapped in an abandoned hotel somewhere in town? Were they let go?
1-Yeah now that I put some thought into it It doesn't really make sense for Lucy to be Lucifer. It would be weird if Lucifer thought to posses someone with such a similar name and if she was Lucifer, you would think she'd be a little more powerful.
2-I certainly like your interpretation of that dialogue more than what I was thinking at the time I got to it. As much as I like tragedies in fiction it would seem weirdly cruel if there really wasn't any type of afterlife in this story. So I would prefer to think that there still is something after death for them.
3-Probably. Chameul kind of seemed to imply that perhaps the great divide might have been a good thing (in some way).
4-I'll have to re-do this ending sometime and read the dialogue more carefully, I think I got a little confused over what was being implied. You might be right.
As for the victims in the hotel, my best guess is that perhaps Duchess could actually sense some sort of change happening to them before turning fully human. I mean, the epilogue does say "two weeks later", so Duchess would have had to have been doing....something? For a bit, before showing back up, unless they were just wandering around that entire time. Perhaps they put someone else in charge, or fired/let them go and then disappeared.
Actually speaking of "disappeared" Lucy seems to just straight up vanish near the end. Although clearly that is probably because she gave up after realizing Michelle wasn't going to bother helping her. I am curious....if the above poster was right about her possibly making a deal of some sort with Duchess, I wonder if it "broke" after Duchess turned human? And what she is actually planning on doing next.
I think that Lucy might have gotten the half of the Duchess' name from the actual Lucy (aka the girl with glasses), or indeed made some sort of pact with the Duchess. Given the theme, maybe they were lovers for a while, and Lucy is just a bitter ex. Since the Duchess tried to romance humans and angels, it's fair to assume that they probably tried with demons, too. And Lucy disappears at the end, because the last part takes place straight up in the Duchess' mind.
I think the building was just supposed to set the scene. Like yeah, you might have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ half the building to get over your girlfriend, and yeah, there might be a dead body in the building no one is concerned with yet.
