When you buy a product, that doesn't entitle you to future benefits like discounts or freebies. You are only entitled to what you paid for. Having said that, if you want a discount then all you have to do is wait. It will be on sale soon enough, and on sale at an even bigger discount further down the line.

It does when the original base should have contained certain things already. 11$ is just too much for some fixes and an extra character.

Then don't buy it. You're not entitled to only prices you consider acceptable. And I say that as someone who's going to wait (years, if necessary) for Origins to get a big enough discount for me to consider purchasing it.

You shouldn't have bought the original base if it was a bad deal. Wait a year after release and it'll be 50% off. I'm sure you have plenty of other games to play in the meantime.

here's my take.

the original version was borked, and this fixes the bugs that should be fixed in the original.
I'm not sure if the original was patched with the bug fixes though.

I'm in the camp that you should have refunded the original when you saw it wasn't right. that's what I did.

BUT... they also did promise new characters in the promotional material, which they never delivered on. No new characters were added to any of the games added into this game. so I'll have to disagree on Tanoomba on "should" here. something was promised in the advertising and not delivered on. they definitely SHOULD add it in for free.

Biggest problem I have is mostly the price point of 11$ for things that should have been there already. And I agree next time I won't buy anything Sega related that quickly.

This has been argued to death already, but the "new characters" bullet point was almost certainly in reference to Knuckles in Sonic 1 or Knuckles and Tails working together, as you were not able to play these characters in the original games.

I do say that with every game.. unless it's something I absolutely have to have today (basically just Hollow Knight Silksong or Half-Life 3), I'll wait for a sale

If you think they "should have been there", then you shouldn't have bought the game, or at least refunded it when you decided it didn't meet your standards. You can't have it both ways: You can't both support a company making decisions you don't approve of then complain that they aren't going out of their way to accommodate your demands. Why would they?

Well with fixes promised I wasn't worried about it. Not so weird to believe a studio to fix issues with a product.

And they DID fix issues. The game was patched post-release to deal with the most egregious issues. But if you buy a game with the expectation that it will later meet your standards, then you have no one to blame but yourself if that doesn't happen.

except you can. this of course depends on what one means by "original game". the games included in this are the mobile ports, which had those characters playable already.

and you could argue that they meant the original games... but those games aren't included in this compilation. these are a collection of the remakes, with sonic 3 & knuckles being a new remake.

marketing and development are rarely on the same page, and marketing very often promises that which is nowhere to be found in the finished product.

I remember mega man ZX advent being marketed as having co-op back in the day.
