Noob-Question to Modding for the S3 Original Soundtrack
Hi!

So, uh, I was certain on buying Origins UNTIL I read they excluded the original Soundtrack for S3&K. Not having the original OST is a Dealbreaker for me.

Im an absolute Noob when it comes to modding, so excuse my (probably) pretty dumb question:

How high are the chances for the modding community to easily mod it into the game? If it can be done, are there any shortcomings for modding the game? E.g. Steam-Achievements not unlocking?

The only thing I ever modded was Witcher 3 and only for Screenshot-Purposes :happymeat:

Thanks for your response!

Hi, I'm Cosmic Eternity. I'm one of the developers of Sonic the Hedgehog Forever and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Absolute.

The modding community will be constantly at work trying to get stuff like a mod loader out when this game releases.

It will take time, and we'd have to figure out things for possibly a week or so.

I'd still HIGHLY recommend to buy Sonic Origins regardless, because it's made with a large effort from fans (Headcannon w/ S3k, some fans upscaling the CD Intro and Outros, the animated cutscenes, etc) along with SEGA themselves.

It's worth a purchase, because this collection has versions of these games that have never been released anywhere else other than mobile devices *OFFICIALLY*.

Sonic CD on Steam was a weird case since it's an out-of-date version of the mobile remaster, which the mobile version had updates (Steam did not).

The Sonic 1 and 2 remasters featured in this collection come from the original mobile ports for Android and iOS. These two in particular have not been released outside of mobile phones.

There's also the various content you can get from the Museum as well, which honestly could be HUGE considering the lack of dev information we have on some of the classic titles.

I think it's worth it right now, I can promise you that.

Yeah, no way I'm buying this until I can mod the music back in.

I really appreciate this post coming from someone that worked on both Sonic 1 Forever and Sonic 2 Absolute. Any possibility that you guys are going to try and implement the same or similar quality of life changes you guys did but for Origins, or is it too early to say?

I think my top most wanted mods are Sonic 3 music and Knuckles in CD.

It really depends how easy this game is to work with. Sonic Mania did get mods with Denuvo but it was barely any more than sprite swaps. Even without denuvo mania modding is limited since you still can't add stuff like new stage gimmicks or new bosses.

Sonic Origins having both denuvo, AND being nothing more than remasters of 4 genesis games (which have already had fan widescreen alternatives for years now), may not be enough to keep modders interest. Do not be surprised if modders don't touch this game that much.

Hi and thanks for your message!

I probably will buy Origins anyway cause I love Sonic since my Childhood, though the "wrong" soundtrack will leave me with a bitter taste in my mouth, but, who knows, maybe you guys get the original soundtrack in there in no time.

Thanks again and take care!
The deluxe edition does come with a "classic music pack" I wonder if that will add the MJ songs to S3K or if its just a separate soundtrack not in game.

That's sadly just stuff to listen to in the museum and not actually anything that affects you gameplay wise, so basically just soundtest stuff.

We're unsure about doing that, honestly.

The team will have to figure stuff out if we decide to do anything, because we already have lots planned for both projects later down the line.

We're just trying to make ourselves not burned out right now.
Look Cosmic, I really wish I could buy the game.
But I really can't. Not for the price Sega is asking (BRL 215 for the BASE version, BRL 240 for the Deluxe one), and not for what Sega is offering with it (Kernel-level malware Denuvo).

I really wish I could support the devs that worked so hard in this game (assuming that Sega wouldn't just cash all the money to their and Denuvo's coffers), but I just can't. I can't if I wish to value my own money.

You got a Nintendo Switch, possibly?

Might be able to help with that.

Unfortunately no. The console itself is BRL1500 (on Amazon) and I sweared to not touch anything Nintendo since 2019 when the whole scandal over Neimod happened.

+1 for not supporting the game. Sorry, cosmic. No one in their right mind should endorse this game, and it's clear you're just doing it to cover yourself so Sega doesn't come after your project, and I totally get that! It's good you said what you said so that your projects can continue to prosper! But I hope people realize why you're saying it so they don't get swayed to buy it only to be burned by the almost half dozen malpractices implemented into this release.

At the very least, denuvo must be removed and the price must be lowered.

You are a saint and a blessing on this community. These games were literally my childhood, my sisters and I constantly reminisce about the little jokes and quips we used to invent for the different songs. I eagerly look forward to when you guys will have a solution. Cheers!
I really dont mind the remixed prototypes we've heard, but i must say that they do feel a little dirty. I mean, you'd think they could just ask for the rights to these songs, but that would a massive legal rabbithole for sega to go down for maybe icecap zone act 1 & 2 at most. At the very least they could just use the original prototypes, but alas, its up to the community to pick up the slack as always. Lets just hope Frontiers is good, that way we could get SA3.
