Soon, even that option will be taken away from us!
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection or just a straight up Genesis mini (since Sega knew how to make enough of them at the very least) will probably be the best way to go once they delist everything imho.
Glad to see more people recognising that collection's greatness! In fact, you can grab both Mega Collection Plus and Sonic Gems Collection on the PS2 for about AU$30 total, the latter of which also comes with Sonic CD for good measure.
You know, back when companies used to care about their old game compilations...
People talking about this trailer only seem to show Sonic Mania clips and or the trailer clips.
None of these remasters get rid of limited lives the original games had when playing these enhanced versions in widescreen unlike Origins which forces you to play in 4:3 for the same experience.
Which might only further confuse fans of the movies - why isn't Origins a brand new game looking into his early days with Longclaw and the echidna tribe? Instead, it's just the original 5 games all over again with no connection to the films whatsoever...
They may as well have just called this "Sonic the Hedgehog Collection Remastered" and would've made just as much, if not more sense.
You just summed up most modern day remasters in a nutshell perfectly!
Like the 8-bit games on the Master System and Game Gear!
It's remade in native widescreen. Which is nice but on PC there already exists mods that do that. And most of these mods require you own the Steam Sonic roms from the genesis collection. I actually hate that they are delisting them. The old version should always be left up for stuff like mods. Just this year we lost the original GTA games, and the original Final Fantasy 1-6 ports. Now Sonic 1-3 joining it.
Like it or not, none of these remasters, good or bad, whether the companies like it or not, can change or alter the past, which is done and dusted! Which is why we should be leaving the classics alone and respecting the legacy they had on us for years to come instead of trying to change what we had back in the day.
I'm not going to remember GTA San Andreas for its abysmal remasters, but rather for the masterpiece it was back in 2004 on the PS2 which is still a masterpiece to this day and a shining example of what open world games should strive to be.
I won't remember Final Fantasy 6 through its pixel remasters, but rather the original versions that captivated those who played it back in 1994 and its PS1 port in 2001 which surprisingly hold up today and still look great on a modern display without the scan lines.
In the same way, I won't remember Sonic 3 & Knuckles for how they're represented in Origins, no matter how good or bad it turns out. Rather, I'll remember it on the good old classic Mega Drive system and its various compilations it was featured in which ironically respect the history of these games and the series as a whole better than Origins will!
Some companies want to monetize on retro games and try to justify certain changes to charge a lot of money.
Nintendo is guilty of this too with their Classic NES and SNES consoles, but you're essentially buying the console. The games are a bonus. Virtually, they want to try and squeeze out as much money as they can.
This is why people make and share roms. To preserve the past and, gain access to rare and hard to obtain games in different formats. If people HAD to do this legally, we would have lost so many games to time and we would be at the mercy of overpriced retro games.
You *might* be playing the hell out of Origins. Let's see if Denuvo says you're allowed to first.
I'll play the hell out of it too.
I've also probably spent more time in the Gen collection and previous ports than most people here. I just love these games. I haven't bought every port, because those are the ones that are lazy rehashes. This one actually gives me a few fun reasons to replay the games again.
