Stick spinning in classic?

Yes. Go into "Options", "Controls and Camera", "Speed Impact Controls (Classic)" and change that to Standard. Some things you have to press the button fast, but most is like an old school charge mechanic like in old sports games where you have to hold Triangle, then press it again when it gets close to the top of the bar.

I should look into this. I destroyed multiple ps2 controllers back in the day in BT3 by this spinning mechanic. Ripped the rubber right off the joysticks. :P

They always were. You could tell who was used to it because we'd go all night, and my hand stopped hurting after a while XD
