Is this game a good intro to Dragon Ball?
Have never really watched the show I remember seeing some Dragon Ball Z and Super casually on the TV but I've never had a sit down and binged the show. Would buying this game be a terrible spot to start in the franchise or does this game have some sort of campaign that will give me the general summary of the story?

Its campaign mode is something of a highlight reel that can breakaway into what-if territory.
Some character motivations do get altered for the sake of brevity though (such as Vegeta killing Nappa for being deadweight instead of him begging for help after completely ignoring orders due to his bloodlust).

Its certainly not the worst option as far as games go.

I've never watched it either. and the campaign does a good job of showing you goku's story from when he encounters vegeta for the first time. So i am not a expert but i learned quite a bit just from gokus path. I definitely would not avoid the game just because you havent seen the show.

DBZ Kakarot would be the better option, even though it doesn't include every moments in the series it did a good job showing you other aspects of the series rather than just fighting, Sparking focuses on each character episodes so the pacing is quite fast

I would agree that Kakarot would be a better intro. I'm not far into the story mode, but it isn't so great and the presentation is pretty lacking compared to Kakarot.

I'd say Dragon Ball: Kakarot might be a better introduction to the story and if you enjoyed that then pick this up :) .

From how the original post is worded, I think they are interested in this game as a game.
This is less asking where is the best place to start for the video games.

Trust me.

He's asking if the campaign will give him a good rundown. The answer is no, dbz kakarot is specifically made to do that.

Kakarot would be a better intro, like everyone here said, but it's also a much worse game.
