Why am I so ass at this game?

Everyone online just counters my ♥♥♥♥ and then gets me in combos I can't counter and I end up just button mashing, so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying

Well you're pretty much answering your own question. You don't know how to do the counters. Go into training mode, learn the defensive counters/tools and you'll manage much better.

Learning long/cool combos don't really matter the moment you know how to get out of them.

Go to Super Training, turn off Accessibility Options, and relax with Daddy Piccolo. He WILL show you the way (Plus you will get Zeno/Whis Completion Bonuses for doing so)

Turn on the Button Guide using the Trigger Buttons for guidance, as well as a text explanation with Triangle and a Demonstration with Square. Don't try to explain away your skill issue buddy ):0)

I changed from my Full battery Xbox controller, to my wired PS4 controller and it made a huge difference.
I tested 2x Xbox controllers all with different batteries and I also have a battery tester, was the same result, my key inputs felt slugish.
I was even using Nvidia Low latency mode on Ultra.

Soon as I went to the Cabled Ps4 controller, issue was gone.
I even tried a cable for the Xbox controller and just did not feel responsive enough [In hind sight the wifi dongle was still in so might have still been connected.]

the guy is largely correct, the training literally has Piccolo show and explain how every mechanical feature of the game's combat works.

There was only one thing I had issue with pulling off and it was the recovery when you hit the walls/ground, everything else could be learned in less than a minute

You will need to get in the lab and actually learn how to play the game. It will take some time, you will need to practice on the hardest mode.

I went with using Goku on Episode Battle, then not stopping in one section until I got the Sparking Episodes/Side Story/Fast Ends.

My first hours went into learning counters and how to escape combos. It's hard at first, sometimes I end up smashing buttons too, but eventually you'll get the hang out of it
