Better Than Budokai Tenkaichi 3?
Now that the game is out, how is it? Is it better than its predecessor? Does it really have more characters? Does it have a lot of offline modes like BT 3?

In every way. Look at reviews. As for offline modes, mostly episode(very expansive with what-ifs)/world tournaments and custom battles you can download from others (still vs CPU). the custom battles will likely make up for a bulk of the missing stuff like sim dragon, and maybe in the future they can do a free game update like they did with xeno2 adding a super dragon ball heroes mode.
Not really but the wealth of modes outside of story mode are great

Its roster is like 20 characters larger despite character cuts from BT3 and its biggest shortcoming is the lack of a few series staple/fan favorite stages.

Nice. Although I wish fighting games today would get released with all the content available instead of cutting them out or not bringing them back.

its fun i have my problems with the game
but its fun
z counter is way easyier then in bt3 making combos almost none existent in comparison
cause even someone with very little skill will break out easy
movement is a decent bit worse in the game aswell
def dosnt surpass bt3 in terms of depth
seems very surface level in comparison
but who knows
only time will tell on that front

this is more content than any fighting game has ever been released with. yes stuff gets cut, you can blame xbox series s for some stuff too. but as tech improves they have to rebuild everything from the ground up in the engine, it's usually not feasible to launch a game like this that is so much of an improvement in things like roster day 1... Normally it'd all be DLC and you'd have half the roster because they need to do that to recoup the losses of making the game. Some DB/GT chars I'd love to see in the future (even have names in the custom story speaker list) like Oceanus Shenron but I'll gladly wait for DLC for those.

What did the Series S do that affected the game?

Is DB Chichi in the roster?

the devs stated it was something they had to develop for, for instance, split screen is not possible except on hyperbolic time chamber across all systems because of series S, it's less powerful than ps5/xsx.

What? That's pretty ridiculous. It's odd that the Series S is less powerful than the Series X and other systems.

goes to further show why wanting everything from bt3 to be stored in RAM and what not likely isn't possible for ps5/xsx/etc while doing stuff thru game's current engine. Maybe some mods will add things back for offline years in the future.
yeah idk what everyone else is seeing.
Story Mode
Some What Ifs but they are basically just alternate endings to a fight here and there
Tournaments
Custom Battles

Thats it. Thats all there is. "Wealth of modes"????
All of that was present in BT3. Yes, people can create fights using some triggers events and conditions to create scenarios. Thats cool. There's something like 20 or so "bonus battles" you can do. Story Mode isn't that long, it took me 90 minutes to do Goku's story and then Black's story is like 3 fights. So if you thought storymode was going to be this massive thing, its not, its barely there. most of your time in storymode will be reading/listening/watching. (Still not as bad as Kakarot was, which was about 20 minutes of cut scenes and then a 5 minute fight, then another 20 minute cut scene)

So the only thing we have new is the ability to create our own custom scenarios. There were so many other things you could do in previous dragonball titles that I can't believe actual fans are saying this is "good enough" for $110.

can't choose the moves of the characters
no create a character
no dragon arena
no tower mode
no dragon sim
no mini games (Time Chamber, Snake Way, etc)
no loading screen games
Story Mode is just click and fight, no map to fly around or board to travel along
unlocking things is so easy they should've just had it all unlocked from the start (imo)

And this is just a critique of the lack of content, this is saying nothing of actual gameplay or graphics, (Theres plenty of threads of people already voicing their opinions on this)

For me, I expected more. What did I expect, exactly? I expected the bare minimum. I expected BT3 with a new coat of paint--we didn't even get that. We got a gutted BT3 with a new coat of paint for $110.

I love dragonball, I love dragonball games. Thats why I want them to do better.

It’s good, but BT3 still did some things better.

So far the episode mode is a breath of fresh air, I mean I’ve played the majority of the Dragon Ball games and Kakarot did a good job retelling everything. It would of been boring to have to replay the entire DBZ storyline again.

I still prefer BT3’s menus and character select screen. Sparking Zero’s character select screen barely utilizes any of the screen space and is just a small box of the characters. Overall BT3 had a better and more straight forward UI when it came to the menus.

Gameplay-wise, a LOT of characters feel better in this game. Cooler and Early Piccolo are easily x10 more fun to use in this game. The manga-exclusive special attacks and unique moves against certain characters are insanely creative too.

Maybe once we get dlc for OG DB characters and hopefully DBZ Bardock, I’ll give it more of an edge over BT3

Back then we've had a plethora of game modes in fighting games. Nowadays that's barely the case even though the hardware is much more advanced than previous generations. Fighting games on the PS2 had more content, with Budokai Tenkaichi 3 being one of them. How is it that we've regressed?
KeV Oct 8, 2024 @ 1:38pm
Not even close. BT3 feels much superior. BT3 had more content, gameplay felt much better, AI isn't cheating. This game doesn't feel good at this point in time
