No idea what's happening on your end, but I've just finished a 2 hour session with it working flawlessly.
The only setting I touched is the one mentioned in the OP, maybe you made some other changes...

The remaining issue is the prerendered cutscenes are stretched.
As far as I know, it's okay to use online because the game has no anticheat, but it's never a guarantee and a future update can change everything! Use at your own risk.

Edit the .ini, either comment them out or just delete them.

Yeah hopefully someone gives feedback on it. Won't care to use it if you can't play online solo story after finish would be boring only playing offline games meant for multiplayer.
