Call it the way you want, but you see the beam getting deflected xD
And yes it nullifies completely the attack, that's the whole point of deflecting it
As using guard will still takes some of your hp, using a vanish is more risky but leaves the enemy open as he's stuck in animation and doesn't cost any point
There's basically 4 or 5 options to avoid getting struck by the beam
- A quick step on the side (not always enough, you sometimes got to go diagonally a bit, depending on the beam's tracking capability, and it costs very little Ki, leaves enemy open for a couple seconds)
- Vanish (guarding at perfect timing, also leaves open)
- Using Perception, which deflects the attack at the cost of 2 points
- Guarding it, at the cost of some HP, enemy will recover quicker than if you evaded it
- Rush out of it, which will most likely works on a Genkidama, if you're far enough, for example, and also costs a bit of Ki, leaves open, but you have less time to go for it, as you spent some time rushing out
- And Rush behind your enemy, by double tapping A/X while having Ki charge button hold, which costs 1 Ki Bar, also leaves open to attack
And maybe more to discover
