No hate, but this game needs more time
Now I'm not saying the game is bad--Quite the contrary. I'm enjoying my time with it, but coming from Raging Blast 2 (no troll), the game feels unfinished with how the movement/combat/cosmetics system works, and holy god the slow menus and transitions are so clunky and slow.

RB2's movement feels so much more quick and responsive; the jump is way more controllable, Quick Ascend/Descend with L1+X is amazing and is used as a really great "Get-Out" tool or for repositioning, and most importantly: You can cancel your normals into other normals and it's really satisfying and skill-based, but not too difficult that a kid couldn't do it, you know?

There's also not enough things explained in this game. The game doesn't explain that you can deflect Special moves like Kamehameha with O, but ONLY if you have two bars of Ki. Speaking of, Deflecting special moves is not worth it at all because you actually LOSE resources for deflecting and you could actually get PUNISHED for it. It's clear they tried copying Raging Blast 2's Deflect, but in that game you didn't need any resources and you could simply hold block + a direction, and you would get a really cool cutscene and reset to neutral.

I don't really know much about Sparking Mode, and I know there's some counterplay to be developed, but I'm just not sure how to consistently beat the auto-combo, so I'm not gonna say anything about it yet. If someone were to enlighten me on how to beat that mode lmk

Now for my nit-pickings with this game:

There are no vaporizations with Ultimate moves like there is in Raging Blast 2. I'm not sure if it was in BT3 since I never played, but I remember that if you ever beat an opponent close enough to dying with move that creates a finishing cutscene like getting hit with Vegito's Final Kamehameha, you're just completely gone. No character model, no falling sound effect, you literally just get wiped, and that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome (or hilarious if you used Ultimate Kamehameha on your little sister playing as Chiaotzu).
Another thing is that whenever you get hit down to the ground in Sparking Zero, you have ZERO friction and just slide everywhere on the ground. In Raging Blast you actually feel like you got slammed down on the ground really hard and you're stuck there. It just makes the game feel really cheap?? I'm not sure why they kept it--Maybe to give the feeling of getting slid across the ground after a powerful move?? But this happens after getting hit by ANY move and there's just no oomph to it at all.

Speaking of lack of oomph... RB2 and the gameplay I've seen of BT3 feels way more impactful than this game. That is all.

I don't know. I really enjoy this game but I really think it was rushed out to be released before the holiday season, and recently Bandai Namco has been super lame with their releases when it comes to anime fighters. I'd go so far to say that Xenoverse 2 has better feeling combat, and I hate Xenoverse. Idk tho, lmk what you guys think because maybe I'm thinking about this completely wrong or just don't get it

Because I want to have a discussion? Damn bruh is it that deep?

About RB2. One of the worst mechanics RB2 brought to the table was cancel combos. Why? Because it took the ability for people on the receiving end to actually play the game. There is nothing like that in this game. You Z counter to get out of sparking, you vanish everything else, perception or revenge counter if you don't have explosive wave, wild sense, after image etc. RB2 was good for its time, but it was so damn sillly imbalanced it was just not a fun experience online.

RB2 and responsive?
BS this is a troll
RB2 is so unresponsive its single handedly responsible for the game being bad with defence being literally impossible and the game being a skilless button masher.

ill give you jumping though, something about it feels too floaty

Idk that's just me. I enjoy the movement of RB2 way more. I promise I'm not trolling :zagcry: I just genuinely find that game's combat way better but maybe I'll warm up to Zero's

There are definitely aspects to this game that I feel are clunky and/or slow. And now that you mention it, the smack downs really don't feel as impactful like you said. The nice thing is that doesn't seem like a tough fix.

Also, parrying in this game is way too easy and definitely not needed. All we needed was quick timing vanishes and perfect blocks. That's it. Combos are satisfying to land, and if parrying is going to be so easy then combos will never be a thing, which is most of the fun of these complex fighting games.

I agree with all of this honestly. Raging Blast 2 has always been a way better combo system than the tenkaichi series. I hoped they would do that in this game....but the basic combos...are bad, clunky and weird. But I love the game, and just need to get used to it. Do wish it was more like raging blast WITH all sparking zeros new implementations
orichic Oct 8, 2024 @ 12:10am
I agree with this 100%. The game feels kind of empty to me. I love the fighting and it's a great game, but I question how quickly I'll start getting tired of it. Feels like they started to rush it and only focused on what they currently have instead of adding more to it

Dropping facts. The micro stutters in this and what I think are super slight input delays between pressing the action and it going through make this game feel unresponsive and slow. Still fun af, but RB2 was CRISP. The combo system in that took more brains too to do. Granted it didn't have much counter and recovery for the person getting wailed on.

I like RB2 but this isn't a raging blast sequel, it's a tenkaichi sequel and a darn good one. RB2 wussified tenkaichi battle system, tenkaichi took skill and spot on timing, RB2 gave much more leniency on timing. Only good thing that came out of RB was the super knock away.

The game tells you everything about the game play. You can learn all the mechanics from completing all the training. 👍

What about move cancels? That was fun and satisfying imo. There was a lot of creativity with what you could do but in this game it's a lot different because you only have so many options for combos

Game isn't very good at teaching you how to deflect moves like Kamehameha. I had to figure that out for myself before I realized it was Perception and it specifically required 2 bars of ki. The game isn't very specific with certain things it tries to teach you.
Training mode could also be better because having to navigate to different menus just to continue practicing the next thing to learn was super annoying as well.

Move cancels disabled your opponent's ability to counter attack, thus forcing a one sided combat. SZ doesn't do that, nor did tenkaichi. RB2 offered a new variation of gameplay and the sparking combos were absolutely horrible, but they were there. The fun mechanics (Terrain deformation and getting stuck in it.) from RB1 were absent in RB2 as well, which kinda sucked.
