theres no switch icon in the fight :/ I said I know how the switching works, but theres no icon even there....so it must be a bug.

Lowering difficulty disables alternate paths for however long you continue to play on said difficulty.
Do the alternate paths do anything? Are they key to unlocking certain things?
Best advice I can give, get sparkling and just unleash an unstoppable combo rush, just spam the melee button until the spark gauge is on it's last segment then hit a spirit bomb, or a kaioken rush. While 1 member gets KOed, you should have time to recharge your ki meter and possibly reactivate sparking to bum rush the next one. Key is finding your momentum and not losing it. Then these grudge match level fights feel easier.
