CD key sites exist already to have games at less prices. Also I’m pretty proud of my early access purchase cos I get to rub it in the faces of those that pointlessly complain

Not exactly a good look to come out swinging like this....

But to answer OP's question, they know that this game and franchise (both Dragon Ball and Budokai Tenkaichi) mean alot to so many people, so early access is likely used as a marketing ploy to make the higher tiers look more valuable to give them more money

But more importantly : Why video games does have Lootboxes ? Microtransaction to make you buy a piece of skin 20$ ? Monthly subscription when you already paid 70$ for a game multiplayer only ? Abusive DLC like 5$ for a character when the roster can't do better than some PS2 games released 25 years ago (yes i am talking to you Fighter Z) ?

Early access is less scammy than those things.

You talk like he can absolutely make others pirate the game, when again, that is up to the individual. OP can't make people pirate the game any more than you can make people buy the game legit.
