The following game, sparking zero, is actually Budokai Tenkaichi 4.
The reason for the seemingly different name is that budokai tenkaichi was only the america/european name, in japan it was Sparking (tenkaichi) Sparking Neo (tenkaichi 2) and Sparking Meteor (tenkaichi 3), now they kept a single name worldwide: Sparking Zero
After Budokai Tenkaichi 3 there hasn't been a SINGLE db game, ANYWHERE(doesn't matter the platform or the year) that got even remotely close to the same levels BT3 reached back then...for 17 entire years.
The only one that was still acceptable was raging blast 1-2 (its ps3 spiritual successor, which is also 10+ years old).
This, on the other hand, is the OFFICIAL successor of the ps2's masterpiece.
Sadly you didn't get to enjoy it back then, but as of now this is what's probably going to be the best DB game of the next 10 years.
There's lots of things that can be said about sparking zero and the old BTs, but to make it short, Xenosh1t has absolutely NOTHING to do with the tenkaichi series.
There's probably hundreds if not THOUSANDS of videos or posts that explain clearly everything, so you just need to look around if you're interesting if finding out more.
finally someone who understands that xenoverse 1 & 2 is not tenkaichi series, well said brother
Budokai = 2d
Budokai Tenkaichi = 3d
Of course the differences don't end here, just to say a few more, BT had a HUGE roster (something sparking zero will have too) and a way more complex fighting system, with overheads, low attacks, counters, grabs, attacks that ignore guard, hyper guard, side attacks et cetera, Budokai Tenkaichi was as technical as a 2d fighter while being 3d, something simply amazing.
You may already know it, but just in case I'll say it explicitly because its of utmost importance for everybody to understand it as clearly as possible:
Ultimate tenkaichi IS NOT a tenkaichi, that game literally just stole the name, they literally did a poll of 5 names, and this one has been chosen because it had the word "tenkaichi" in it
xD
Those are mostly noobs that can't land a single decent combo, but you'll at least get a vague idea of what you might get yourself into.
Xenoverse does not have beam clashes and is also missing a ton of other stuff as well as a horrible intrusive UI that is constantly showing damage numbers that you cannot turn off without turning everything off.
So Xenoverse is what Dragonball Online became Sparking Zero is continuing what DBZ fighting games were for years before Xenoverse went back a few steps.
This game will be epic.
Dunno for sure since I didn't play it, but heard it wasn't bad at all
Xenoverse was something to do until I got my Ps3 and Ps2 working again for TenKaichi 3 and Raging blast 1 & 2
xenoverse is fundamentally different in both gameplay and style to tenkaichi/sparking
so... to say that the games are the same style of combat is just ignorant.
why do you think most people who loved bt3 hated xv? because the fighting is different.
id even say they are sorta different genres. both arena fighting games but both with different ways to go about it.
With that being said: This Sparking Zero game is a direct sequel to Tenkaichi series. Not Budokai, and not Xenoverse. Which is slightly a bummer for me since i'm a fighting game enthusiast... BUT i'm still going to give it a chance since i'm being told there are combos and skillful gameplay involved. Sounds interesting enough.
