Gohan beast looks like something DragonBall would use to make fun of itself + it's very lazy writing and simply a character assassination.
Orange Piccolo makes sense, it completed his character arc. Beast Gohan is just very lazy writing and only exists because they changed the movies focus on Piccolo to Gohan. Because they know Gohan will always sell more tickets and merch then Piccolo ever could.
I don't think they can ignore GT now that they've put it on the official timeline but they could just have it be alternates like a future trunks scenario. That would be kinda lame though in my opinion.
Toriyama knew this existed and help create it with Shueisha, and neither of them have ever said that GT wasn't canon. The fact that the timeline was created by the series creator with help of the publisher, and Toriyama before his death nor Shueisha have come out to say the opposite, therefore it should be considered canon.
beast gohan was supposed to be the pay off that all the gohan fans had been waiting for since they teased it all the way back when Gohan beat Raditz in the Saiyan Saga. This was supposed to be the culmination of the Z story arc of Gohan finally unleashing his inner power in all its glory. (Ultimate Gohan was actually supposed to be this, but they immediately side lined him so, this is what we got instead)
It doesn't even make any sense. How did he transform? What training was he doing? What even is this form and what does it do? Why did his hair grow out to his SS2 hair from when he was a kid? Is that his normal hair length and he just always cuts it? Why does he go kinda rabid when he goes SS2 Teen Gohan and Beast Gohan? Are we going to explore any of this? Of course not.
Look, I loved Ultimate Gohan, Mystic Gohan, Gokuhan. Very cool. "No, i'm here to kill you". Absolute menace. And his Burst Rush is the coolest melee combo i've ever seen in my life and to this day is my favorite. That sequence of him smacking Super Buu around with the most basic kicks and punches and doing so much damage while making it look so effortless is so iconic that its burned into my mind. And that upward kick he did is ******* LEGENDARY.
But Beast Gohan is trash. You can't teased in the Saiyan Saga, mention it again on Namek, talk about it more against Cell, then give him Mystic, and then sideline him and have him go Beast and then act like this is the culmination, no, its called a *** pull. Thats what it is.
If Pan had died, the transformation would make sense.
If we had seen an entire arc of him training with Whis, the transformation would make sense.
But as it stands, it's just a cash grab transformation designed to elicit nostalgia 'member berries from fanboys that are desperate for some Gohan Ws.
Well it won't work on me. No sir.
How about you do a movie with JIren and have him knock the **** out of Whis or something, instead of introducing him as the only mortal stronger than a Destruction God and then immediately sidelining him. And boy I can't wait to see how they ruin Broly after having his base form go toe to toe with 2 Gods effortlessly, i'm totally sure they won't immediately nerf him or just outright forget about him.
Look, sorry, but I have no faith that Dragonball will do these characters justice, and Beast Gohan is an example of them explicitly *not* doing a character justice, pulling a transformation out of no where and acting like it's supposed to be some big great thing you've been building to is cheap and lazy.
However. I have no problem with people being fans of it and wanting it in the game. It looks cool, its strong, and he has a different personality, there's a lot to like especially if you overlook all the problems with it. We're all Dragonball fans here, and we all want to see this product taken to even greater heights.
I just want them to do it the right way. Beast felt forced. It didn't feel organic. Unfortunately, that's par for the course for Super, which has people pulling out transformations off screen every other episode. In fact, Vegeta and Goku both did this for SS2, and every form afterwards.
SS2 Gohan was the *last* character whose transformation felt earned. Everything after that (not counting Ultimate Gohan as thats a different kind of thing), all happened off screen. Not great.
Give us organic transformations, that make sense, and maintain consistency. Thats all we ask for. We don't want to hate Beast Gohan. We just wish it felt earned. If you think him beating up Raditz as a kid justifies the Beast form, then thats totally cool for you, but there's a few of us that expected more of an effort other than "sideline gohan after Cell and then have him pull out a new form for no reason", its lazy and disrespectful to the character and Gohan's fans.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk everyone.
GT has always been canon they just don't want it to be because they don't like it for whatever reason.
