The AI is terrible
Seriously I don't get the "it's hard" stuff. Very few of the AI fight back in any real way aside from spamming specials. Just move and charge and do the same thing. I cheesed the entire Goku storyline and sparking side story just by doing the same thing they do. Great ape Vegeta and Beerus were by far the worst for spamming moves, but all the AI do it to some degree. I really wish I would have just refunded at my initial review...

Because people may be trying to lock on in close combat. I did the same and it took me hours to beat Vegeta and Ape Vegeta.

Then I tried staying long range, charging the Sparking meter and spamming specials, and the AI just stands there, taking all your specials. Have not lost a fight ever since. Granted I did not play much, just got to the Buu arc. But it's a stomp so far. I hope the rest of the game is not like this.

I even had to go back and replay the Frieza fight because I beat him so easy I did not even use the spirit bomb.

I've also tried some custom World battles and you can beat them in the same manner. Just "A" dodge or block a bit at the beginning of the fight. Then stay away and charge, while the AI does the same. Go into Sparking mode and unload special after special.

The a.i. isn't my problem. The unclear side objectives are.

Getting through the 17 side objective on piccolo was rough af

Ai becomes a problem in some saga's. I noticed where there's water, the Ai loves to go swimming. (it slows your ki charging underwater as well)

Oh... yeah, they're a lil buggy. Not hard tho.

Jiren stood for his beating when I did Goku's route.

I took a break from the frieza saga and jiren saga just from the beat downs by goku.
I manhandled jiren, even though you have to wait it out to beat the what if

Nah that's it, you figured it out. Charging ki > sparking > ultimate spam beats all the AI in the game easily, even "Super" difficulty. Only hard thing in the entire game are some of the timed win conditions for what if scenes.

The thing I don't get is sometimes the AI becomes genuinely oppressive and no amount of me trying to break out of a combo works, and I get no breathing room. Then sometimes the AI just.. deletes their braincells and run into attacks and just stand around.

big facts hope they fix the AI and make it more challenging for normal offline battles.

ai is good at close quarter combat, if you don't use sparking and try to fight them face to face a lot, they can be pretty tough, but sparking just wipes out their hp

Correct. They don't know how to deal with it.

I'm toying with custom battles and trying to make very hard fights, and the only way I found is to disable Sparking from the player. That works, but it's also a shame because so many cool animations are locked behind the ultimates.

Right now I'm thinking my challenge custom battles will disable sparking/ultimates until a certain threshold or timer, so you have to fight the AI without it for a while and then unlock sparking as a way to finish the fight. It's not unlike the show, where characters only use their best techniques when they are on their last legs and very late into the fights

I've basically gotten pissed and quit twice so far at the AI. Played around a hundred fights or so, and 98% of the time its no issue. But on some fights the input reading is horridly obnoxious. Every vanish countered, every time I super counter (i think that's what it's called) I'm countered, every time I do any specials they vanish out or block, even if I set it up properly I miss due to tracking issues on rush attacks. It's not hard in a git gud sense. It's hard in that some AIs are over tuned to auto counter everything then stun lock you, then basically go randomly passive for 10 seconds before going back to giving you back shots against your will regardless of what defensive options you use.

Edit: Yup. It's basically randomly on/off uber AI in some fights. Was banging my head against the majin SSJ2 vegeta v. SSJ3 goku fight for around half a hour. He was just automatically hard countering everything I did with perfect timing around 90% of the time. This most recent fight the AI started in normal mode instead of the hard mode and I beat him easily. Don't know what's going on under the hood but it's inconsistent and seems to rely heavily on input reading.

I've personally just had issues where the AI is in melee range hitting me, the revenge counter decides it wants to go on vacation, I can't counter rush attacks cause that also went to lunch, and I'm just sitting there mashing the defensive options demanding the game to let me actually do something.

Because the AI tends to immediately warp behind you, pummel you with an endless combo, and then fire an array of ki blasts while you're down before repeating the process.

The AI is braindead and not challenging at all
