Wait for a huge sale before thinking about picking this up (and I wouldn't even bother for its single player content alone)
Another person did have this same question so ill just post my response to them
Yes, you can 100% enjoy this game without any pvp. This is what i'm currently doing, mainly due to the connection error bug that's around rn but i've been enjoying myself alot.
The Cpu is pretty lacking in difficulty especially when compared to the other tenkaichi games but this can be subsided through the gamemodes that you can play.
The combat for this game is the best in the series it's way faster, more technical, has more mechanics and even if you are just completely destroying the cpu it feels amazing.
The Story is amazing, alot of people will complain about the story "not having cutscenes" and while this is mostly true i personally its the best story of any dragon ball game (that retells the main story). Having played through bt 1 and 3 and also a plethora of other dragon ball games i don't need fully fleshed out scenes explaining what i already know so im fine with the "slideshows", The what ifs are the best in the series, they can go through entire arcs of the series and completely change outcomes and the fact that it goes through multiple characters storylines and perspectives is what really makes it amazing. The fact that the story is the way it is also helps just incase they want to add more character storylines in the future for potential dlc it will be much easier for them
The Custom battles are the lifeblood of the single player in this game, its absolutely amazing what this mode brings which gives you basically infinite replayability (its kinda like mario maker) it does have some flaws, especially when making your own custom battle like how the dialogue options aren't perfect english and how they are really annoying to pick out but besides this its definitely the best gamemode in any dragon ball game. I also expect them to be adding alot of fixes and content to this with the patches and dlc and even if they don't the mods people make certainly will.
This game also has a tournament mode but its just as you expect and isnt really gonna add anything new, abit of fun here and there but thats it.
I assume you have played the older tenkaichi games by the way you talked about beating the cpu but if you haven't you should totally go play the third one first to get an understanding of what the tenkaichi games are all about but if you are a returning fan then this will keep you entertained and reminiscing about the good times.
Totally worth buying, 9/10 (10/10 if bandai fixes the issues)
with custom battles is pratically INFINITE content!
I struggle to justify the 70 schmeckels price point even if you are an online junkie.
unnarrated and poorly produced slideshows created by 12 year olds in an insanely limited and rudimentary "content creator" mode is hardly riveting content
