Really struggling against how the perception counter works in this game
It's very hard for me to get any offense going when my friend keeps parrying all of my charged attacks like this. How do I stop this?

Stop hitting them from the front, get behind them. You cannot sonic sway or anything from the back, only super counter and it's harder to pull off.

I probably should've worded it differently, but the sonic sway doesn't really come out, even though it's the same stance as the sonic sway. It's the one where it slows down and I get hit, and it gets reset to neutral. Is that the super counter thing?

Your wording is still confusing me a little, what stance is the same as sonic sway exactly? Are you talking about holding guard and then pressing an additional button?

That's what perception is, it's basically a counter stance, if your opponent hits you during it, it'll smash them and it'll somewhat reset to neutral, but they can also counter it. I believe if you perfectly time it instead you get the sonic sway (assuming here I forgot specifically how it worked). You can also do a perfect perception, it's where you see a small badass cutscene that pretty much leaves them flying away (no reset to neutral) but I believe this only triggers with charged attacks or a counter

Then you have ANOTHER counter that's called the super counter, that you perform with square up at the same time, but the timing is very tight and it has to be timed alongside when your enemy connect your body with a rush attack. But this can also be done from the back.

I'm bad with words, so let me try this one more time.

Basically, whenever I'm hitting my friend with the regular Square combo and I go for a charged attack, doesn't matter which type, he immediately gets to counter me with some sort of slow-motion strike. The stance looks the same as the one used for the Sonic Sway, but it gives him that strike instead. It constantly stops my offense and I have no idea what to do against it. That's what I'm struggling with atm. I have no idea what it's called, though(although from your response, I think it's indeed that Perception thing).

Yeah that's perception. You can percept it back, you can vanish it, etc. It doesn't leave you defenseless, you can move before he can follow it up generally speaking. You can also immediately do a perception yourself if he's going to try to follow up with a rush attack.

It's an imperfect perception sway, you attack he holds B and he gets that, if he times his B input with your attack perfectly it results in the sway animation where they dodge like 60 times then perform the hit. You can delay your basic strikes and thread in ki blasts to break the perception stance and get a stagger large enough to reset your own offense on him just delay a ki input or dodge and ki blast at the end of your usual strike combo instead of charging or you can also mix him up by teleporting there instead and grabbing his back
As long as you don't attack into their perception, you can also grab them, I think ki blasts work too.

Charging the rush chains isn't always so good, especially when they expect it, so just don't charge them.

Right. I just need to get used to it in that regard; it's ticking me off a bit because it didn't work like that in BT3. New mechanics still haven't exactly clicked yet.

Yeah, it's a new type of defense mechanic. But it's not free, it does cost ki and skill points, depending on what they try to use it on.

You can do a perfect smash which should teleport them behind them if they're holding perception. If they're holding perception they're wasting ki as well so you can dash backwards, slight pause (some characters have combos from a dash) fire ki blasts, and use insta transmission attack. You can also do a grab.

It sounds like what's happening is that you're repeating the same combo chain over and over and your friend has you zeroed in on the timing. If this is the case, he can perception right before your smash attack hits. You need to change up your combo or use high speed movement to get behind him.

It could also be a super counter that he is using.

The difference between the two is that a super counter takes no skill count and has a loud SONIC BOOM when it activates. Perception has a sharp ping and takes 1 skill count.

I would like teleporting to be as easy to play as in the old games. Just press B on Xbox or circle on Playstation and you're behind the opponent. I found it much better that way. Unfortunately, the current teleport dodge options are not so good.

"how the perception counter works" it doesn't. at all. maybe once or twice but never consistently.

Vanishing into backshots. You should mix it up and throw a ki blast if he's spamming perception too.
