As I said on your other post about Raider mode most players are only playing the standard mode these days. Switch modes and you will find matches more easily.
If you really want to play Raider mode then jump on Discord at https://discord.gg/marauders or use the in game chat function to ask other players to queue for Raider mode with you. In game you can see other online players in the recommended and recent tabs in the friend finder and there is a button labelled message that you can hit to start a text chat with them.
That is usually a timing issue, not an airlock camping issue, but even so it can be frustrating. I say it's not an airlock camping issue because no one will choose one airlock and actually camp there for a long period of time hoping that it will open because it might never open. Some players will run from airlock to airlock when a match starts checking to see if the airlock is in use or not. Sometimes players simply happen to be nearby when the door starts to open and since it's quite loud they will hear it and set up to deal with whoever shows up.
Why I say it's a timing issue is because you either aren't getting to the POIs fast enough, or you aren't waiting long enough to go in when you aren't able to get to a POI quickly. Try getting to the POI immediately if you spawn in at the beginning of the match (match timer with about 24m30s or more remaining), or hang back for a bit and then go in after a couple minutes if you load in after more than about 30 seconds have gone by since the match maximum timer of 25 minutes. Maybe grab some space salvage first, you never know what you might find.
If you want to try avoiding PVP early in a match then there are ways to do this. One option is to hide and observe. Find a spot to hide your ship near an asteroid or other debris where you can still clearly see one POI. If a lot of ships and/or pods go to the POI you are watching then head to another other POI. If no one goes to the POI you are watching after a minute or so then it should be relatively safe to head in.
I don't recall anything like that happening to me but I can think of a couple things that could seem like melee attacks of some kind. Do you remember what map it happened on? I ask because there are maps with hazards on them that can damage players if they stand too close or walk through them and it might seem like it's an invisible melee attack of some kind. if you aren't aware of them.
There's a steam vent on the Asteroid Mine map that damages players that walk through it and that map also has a couple spots with dangling wires that can electrocute a player. It's not the only map with wires like those. Quite a few maps have anti-personnel mines placed in a variety of spots. The anti-personnel mines are known to occasionally glitch or end up in places where they're not easily seen so it could seem like an invisible melee attack especially if the sound glitched.
Ah, okay. Wasn't sure what the circumstances were. Thanks for clicking report so the team can investigate. It helps if you can also submit footage and/or more details on the Marauders Discord, there's a player reports channel for that so you can submit manual reports anonymously.
Not sure if you know about the secondary reporting button. if you don't get killed by someone you suspect is cheating, or if they're abusing the prox chat, then you can still make a report if you hit escape while in the match and hit the report abuse button that appears in that menu. It helps to also make a report on Discord when you do this otherwise the team may not know exactly what they need to look for.
I linked the Marauders Discord server for you in my first response on this thread.
Short answer - it's head shots. Head shots hurt, even though a level 8 helmet.
Head shots have a 3.25x damage multiplier after helmet armour is deducted from the shot and players only have 100 maximum health.
Helmets cover the entire head even if they look like they don't. Everything else is covered by body armour including the torso arms and legs even if the armour only looks like it covers the chest or torso. I haven't tested exactly where the hit box for head hits starts but I would imagine anything above shoulder level counts as the head.
Helmets and armour both provide direct damage reduction from hits. If a 28 point hit strikes an 8 point helmet the hit does 20 damage multiplied by the 3.25 modifier so it ends up doing 65 damage. It only takes two of those to an 8 point helmet to kill a player from full health. That same hit to 8 point armour only does 20 damage if the shot strikes the arms or torso, and only 10 points if it hits the leg as all legs shots do half damage after armour is calculated.
Most guns do somewhere between 18 and 40 damage per projectile but the damage for a specific gun can only vary from its base damage if it has certain attachments. For example the Sten does 21 damage per hit, 22 if it has a compensator attached, and 23 if it has the suppressor attached. If those shots hit the head of a player or bot with no helmet they end up doing 68.25, 71.5, and 74.75 damage respectively.
Shotgun pellets are calculated separately and do 18 damage each. Shotguns fire 10 pellets per shot. Each pellet that hits the head of someone in an 8 point helmet does 32.5 damage, 10 damage to the body or arms of someone wearing 8 point armour, and only 5 points to the legs. If all 10 pellets hit the head that would be 325 damage. If they all hit the body and arms then one shot would do 100 damage, and it would do 50 damage if all pellets from a single shotgun blast hit the legs. It is possible for pellets to hit different locations, or to miss. It's not all or nothing with shotguns, each pellet from a shot is treated as a separate projectile.
You are very welcome. Have fun gaming!
