Whats the effect or point of a silencer?
just wondering if it effects AI or actual sounds range for other players

gun stats, look at your weapons, 1 with and without a silencer.

Makes the shots harder to hear. When I use a silenced Sten the AI don't come running when I kill one of them quickly (before they can make noise). If I use a loud gun they tend to show up wherever I was shooting. Same goes for players, it makes the sound harder to hear so they might not hear you at all if they're too far away.

also makes it stronger I believe? Silenced sten has +1 damage.

Yeah, it might. Longer barrel due to the silencer equals more pressure, I guess.

More dmg doesnt make much sense but yeah some parts give extra damage some reduce recoil etc.

Real silencers improve the muzzle velocity of the bullets a bit and therefore they have slightly more kinetic energy which can be seen as more damage. Most games do the opposite though due to balance reasons.

It actually does sense. Go do some research on it and you'll see what I mean, in most cases it actually slightly increases the FPS.

Top google search:

A suppressor will typically increase the muzzle velocity of ammunition and maintain if not improve shot group. The silencer is enabling the shooter to be more accurate by providing a much less violent platform to operate.

Yeah, games get a lot of things wrong for reasons related to "game balance."

I'm happy to see a game that goes with a semi-realistic effect from a silencer instead of the "game balance" option which is usually reduced damage, reduced range (or dropoff happening sooner) or something else like that.

Well. The more you know.

Watch some irl ballistics and you'll see it does make sense. It's just been a balancing thing in games for years that silencers do less damage.

The first guess for most people is that because it makes the firearm quieter and vents (or otherwise messes with) the gasses that it makes it weaker in some way. Recent tests show the opposite is true, and they reduce recoil, too. So - quieter, stronger (faster), less recoil. What's not to like? :steamhappy:

It's not exactly common knowledge, and most movies, shows, and games have had it wrong for a long, long time. Same with how a Taser works. Hollywood makes it a stun gun that knocks people out but that's not what it does, however almost everyone thinks that it does. Defibrillators are totally wrong in almost every show and movie out there and even worse in most games. I'm looking at you, Battlefield!!!

What they said and not just the players but if the A.I hear you shoot they will make a beeline for you, using a silencer not so much, helps you stay alive if anything.
Honestly, the main benefit of the silencer is how it also acts as a flash hider. You can see so much better when firing guns with a silencer on.

actually, more damage is the only thing that makes sense.
I've never understood that in games, silencers taking off damage points. it's dumb.
Silencers increase muzzel velocity, in-turn creating a faster projectile, which does more damage.
