Damage REDUCTION. The hitboxes are head/neck, but yes it does something.

It is only a little bit but it does do something, depending on the helmet you can take 1 to 3 bullets more to the head.

yes, quite a bit honestly. is this real? ha.

Yeah, unfortunately it's real. People don't take time to figure out how the game works before they come on the forums and ask questions.

Go into a few missions with no helmet and you'll find out as soon as something shoots you in the face.

bingo.
If you've run a "rustbucket only run" you know damn well that a helmet is the most important piece of gear.

I'll wreck you with a luger if you're not wearing a helmet, doesn't matter you're gun, because it's my gun now, and you're dead.

try running no helmet, and then run a civ helmet, see if you notice the difference.
it's noticeable to most of the people i've had do this.

In the beta the damage multiplier for hitting the head was something stupid like x3.5 from what I remember and I doubt they changed it. That means 1-3 shots from most guns would kill you even if you had a lvl 10 helmet. From what I understand that means 10 points of damage per bullet is negated. If a weapon does say 24 damage like the MP40, that's 14 damage per bullet. If you are wearing a lvl 10 helmet 14 x 3.5 = 49. So three shots to the head or 2 shots to the head and one to the body from an MP40 while wearing the highest level armour in the game will kill you. People used to defend this saying it's a skill based game and rewards skill. The amount of time it gets to get lvl 10 gear and to get wiped out in three shots from a low-tier weapon is just stupid if you ask me. Maybe they did change the multiplier but i doubt it. They rushed this ♥♥♥♥ out wayyy too fast.

Helmets do nothing as the multiplier for headshot damage is 3.5x so you will be 1shot headshot with pretty much anything regardless of helmet.

Yeha, its reduction, so a 6 rated helm reduces the incoming damage by 6
an Uzi does 22 damage by default i think, so thats 22 minus 6
But yeah, the helmets do reduce the incoming damage, but its not supposed to make you feel like a god.

The trick is directional though, all helmets will only reduce damage if the bullet hits that location, your face is unprotected, this mean if someone shoots at your head from behind, you get the damage reduction, but if someone hits you directly in the face, you don't.

This also applies to shields, if you have a shield on your back, as in, it's in your off-hand slot, you cannot be shot in the back as shields reduce the damage from bullets to zero (you can still be shot in the foot though lol), the larger shields also protect the back of your head.

A great combo to have is the wielding mask, and the large shield on your back, because the wielding mask doesn't protect the back of your head - but, the wielding mask more importantly, protects the face!

People seem to think that just because they have that red chest and helm on, they are gods lol - i don't even pick up the red chest at all, its not that great, the BA chest piece seems to be a very good all rounder with 2x3 slots, but the plate rig and higher (anything that have slots) are the best.

Did you really assume that this game models different hitboxes for different helmets? LOL.
Mac Oct 4, 2022 @ 4:27pm
Yeah .... they are directional.

Otherwise there is zero point in the wielding mask being in the game.

You can get shot in the face, ignoring the helmet reduction, you can also shoot people in the arms and legs to ignore the body armour ....

This is also why the 'Half plate' also doesn't protect your back, its literally a half plate, it protects your chests only.
